Epic Win: Sega Game Gear

Feb. 8, 2010

sega game gear

Submitted by Stephen G, Project Mercury team leader.

Sega’s Game Gear was the 3rd commercially available hand-held video game console that featured a color screen. I definitely remember logging some Sonic The Hedgehog hours on a Game Gear. What about you? Favorite games? Do you miss the Game Gear, or are you content with your iPod Touches and PSPs?

Just what every video gamer needed: video game cereal. I wish I could still find this stuff.

Epic Win: Sony PlayStation

Jan. 14, 2010

sony playstation

Submitted by Chris T, epic gamer.

This classic video game console was released in 1994 (1995 in the United States and Europe). It was not the first console to utilize optical disc format, but it was the first successful model to do so. It was manufactured for 11 years. Of course, by now we’ve been through PlayStation 2 and are currently using PlayStation 3, but the original is the true nostalgic win. Let us know in the comments what your favorite PlayStation games were!

Epic Win: 90’s Nintendo Training Video

Dec. 21, 2009

Submitted by Kabuki K, customer service expert.

I ran across this video while watching the “Grill Skills” video of your nostalgia section. I’ve been sitting watching this thing and I have to admit it’s hilarious. Having worked in retail in the past, I also have to admit that it’s scary, since the video here is DEAD ON about how some customers act. There’s a good bit of comedy in this, which makes it a WIN, and not just a post about the old Nintendo

The customer is always right? Well, anyone who works retail can tell you that isn’t true. It’s fun to see just how wrong people can be, though. And that’s what we’re all about here at Once Upon a Win: Laughter at the expense of others. What? No, I mean…What we’re all about epic WINS from the past, of course!

Epic Win: Ski Free

Dec. 8, 2009

Submitted by Aaron S and Carter W, ski bunnies:

Even as an adult, the yeti is still probably the most frightening thing ever.

When attempting to associate “computer games I played in my youth” with specific games, the first thing that comes to mind is Oregon Trail. The second thing that comes to mind is Ski Free. Damn, that yeti was fast!
