Epic Win: Lisa Frank Designs

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by K Kovach,

I remember most school supplies — namely folders — featured pencils and books and other school supplies on them. The Lisa Frank brand wanted to showcase a more accurate depiction of school: Tripping on hallucinogens. That rainbow-colored unicorn got me through the 6th grade, man!

Epic Win: Krazy Glue

Sep. 23, 2009

Submitted by katsak

Krazy Glue was so dangerous as a kid. I put some in my sisters hair and… well, let’s say that did not go over so well with my parents. Anybody else abuse Krazy Glue?

Epic Win: Push-A-Point Pencils

The solution to your pencil sharpener problem — OK, well, that was never really a problem. But Push-A-Point mechanical pencils were all the rage when I was in elementary school. When you were out of lead, just pop off the top and another tip would be ready.

Epic Win: The Smell of Ditto Copies

Aug. 8, 2009

Submitted and Written by Angela P

Smell The aroma of pages fresh off the Ditto machine was a memorable feature of school life for those who attended in the ditto machine era. A pop culture reference to this is to be found in the film Fast Times At Ridgemont High. At one point a teacher hands out a dittoed exam paper and every student in the class immediately lifts it to his or her nose and inhales.

Concern about the toxicity of the ink and students’ habit of sniffing the pages contributed to the decision of some school districts to abandon ditto machines in favor of other technologies.

Epic Win: Casio Super Magic Diary

Jul. 22, 2009

casio

Submitted and Written by Brenna M

When I was in 5th grade, my friends and I would exchange the FIRST text messages during class with the casio Super Magic Diary. One model even had a remote control for a television, and we’d change the channel during educational videos. It had a digital filing system for names and phone numbers, and you could create portraits of your friends.
