Oct. 4, 2009

Submitted by Michelle

Alex Mack was a cross between Clarissa Explains It All and the T1000 from Terminator 2. It was featured on Nickelodeon’s SNiCK lineup, among the ranks of All That, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

Epic Win: Orange VHS Tapes

Aug. 14, 2009

Untitled

Submitted and Written by WerewolfCyote

There once was a time when “Nick” meant something. During that time, an orange tape meant pure happiness.

WerewolfCyote gets it. The orange tapes weren’t significant for their color, but for what they stood for. The Nickelodeon glory days ended a long time ago. If you look closely at the photo, there are some pretty win choices there too: Harriet the Spy, Ren and Stimpy, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

Since it’s Friday, I thought we could reminisce about Nick together. More videos after the jump.

Epic Win: Nickelodeon Super Toy Run

Aug. 3, 2009

I love that he grabs a Sega Genesis in the video. That kid is an epic win too.

Submitted and Written by Courtney C

For your nostalgic pleasure, may I remind everyone of the Nickelodeon Super Toy Run. Nickelodeon held this contest throughout the 1990’s in conjunction with Toys ‘R Us. The winner of the contest was selected via postcard entry and would be awarded a 5 minute shopping spree in Toys ‘R Us. Every child who ever saw that commercial would spend countless hours daydreaming of not only what they would grab in that store, but actually strategize the store layout in order to maximize the amount of shopping cart stuffage. Mind you, this was before the days of the internet so the only way to enter was to quickly scribble down the mail-in address at the end of the commercial, then beg your parents to mail off as many 3×5 cards as possible with your name & info on it. Winning the lottery, the McDonald’s Monopoly game, inheritance from your grandparents… all paled in comparison with the possibility of winning the Super Toy Run at Toys ‘R Us.

Epic Win: GAK

Jul. 7, 2009

Submitted and Written by John P

Anyone remember when Nickelodeon supported weird and kooky things like GAK? When the Nick we loved dared to focus on the quirks of being a kid in the 90s, and few things else; a far cry from the present. Now in order to be a nick kid you have to be fashionable and posses an air of tween drama-esque to fit in, with little wackiness involved. I may be getting old, but I still know whats great.

Epic Win: Salute Your Shorts

Jun. 30, 2009

Submitted by A Mills

Camp Anawanna we hold you in our hearts! Epic Win for Salute Your Shorts! Remember all of the characters? We couldn’t remember which character represented each stereotype, but we rounded up a few… For instance, we remember Telly (the tomboy/sports junky), Budnick (the douchebag), Donkeylips (the fat kid), and Sponge (the dork). Any we missed? List them in the comments.

This Epic Win was initially not well-received by voters and thus skipped by the Once Upon A Win writing team, however, due to the persistence of people who love this show, the vote count was raised considerably and thus revisited by staff. Don’t see one of your favorite childhood memories on the front page? Check the Voting Pages!
