Epic Win: Rush

Oct. 14, 2009

Submitted and Written by Paul Rizzerati and the Buckets of Blood, Rush cover band

Rush is like a sexual explosion of sound. Greatest drummer of all time and greatest bass player of all time, plus an excellent guitarist are pretty sweet right? Well, not until you add the incredible lyrics and the fact the just three guys can recreate a symphony of sound with total perfection that make professional musicians say HOLY F! As a kid I loved this song, and also the way the band spoke to non-conformist kids who weren’t ready to go full goth or full jock but just wanted to maintain some individuality in high school. This is what real talent looks like.

That’s one hell of a write up. Well done!

Whoa, MC Hammer! [INSERT JOKE ABOUT PARACHUTE PANTS HERE]. I mean, right? Those were ridiculous. But not as ridiculous as the spandex. {INSERT JOKE ABOUT SPANDEX HERE]

Epic Win: Les Paul

Aug. 22, 2009

Who and what could be more of an Epic Win than Les Paul and the guitar named after him? Many, so many of our personal musical Epic Wins would not exist today were it not for Les Paul and his creations; after all, he didn’t just invent the electric guitar, he also invented multi-track recording, which musicians have relied on heavily for decades. The man was so dedicated to his craft that when he suffered a badly-broken right arm as a young man, he instructed the doctors to set it so it would heal permanently cocked, ready to strum. Truly, one of the most epic of wins.

Epic Win: 867-5309

May. 1, 2009

In the age of cell phones, when people are so used to having their numbers pre-programmed that they often forget important numbers like girlfriends, parents, or even their own, this is probably the most remembered phone number of all times. Don’t bother trying your local number because you’ll probably either get a disconnected number or any angry person who is tired of getting calls from random teenagers or nostalgic Generation Xers. The only reason we can fault Tommy Tutone and Jenny for is being an epic earworm. Are you singing it right now? 867-5309?
