Epic Win: Black Sabbath

Nov. 20, 2009

Submitted by Ken L, who is rumored to have bitten off the head of a bat

Black Sabbath was responsible for many heavy metal staples: “Iron Man,” “Crazy Train,” and “Paranoid” (shown above). MTV recognized Ozzy’s outfit as the Greatest Metal Band of All Time. Sabbath is pretty good, but I think VH1 was probably a bit more accurate ranking them at second, behind Led Zeppelin.

Epic Win: Steppenwolf

Nov. 17, 2009

Submitted by Carl S, reuniting with John Kay

I met someone named Steffan Wolfe once. I asked him if he was “born to be wild” or if he ever took girls on a “magic carpet ride.” Then I told him I was out of jokes. He didn’t think I was very funny.

Epic Win: Cyndi Lauper

Nov. 10, 2009

Submitted by Deb, who just wants to have fun

Lauper’s She’s So Unusual was the first album to have four top five singles, including classics like “Time After Time,” “She Bop,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” all of which are still pop gems today. Until somebody ruins it.

Epic Win: Star Search

Oct. 29, 2009

Submitted and Written by Danielle G

Before there was American Idol, there was Star Search, hosted by Ed McMahon. Star Search showcased us such future stars as Dave Chappelle, Norm MacDonald, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, Alanis Morissette, Tiffany, Christina Aguilera, Drew Carey, Brad Garrett, Carlos Mencia, Adam Sandler, Sharon Stone, and Rosie O’Donnell (among many others who also went on to be famous).

Just my opinion here, but I’m going to rank that list in order of talent: Dave Chappelle, Rosie O’Donnell, Destiny’s Child (Beyonce, really), Norm MacDonald, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Adam Sandler, Brad Garrett, Alanis Morisette, Drew Carey, Britney Spears, Tiffany, Sharon Stone, Carlos Mencia. Feel free to argue with that.

Epic Win: David Bowie

Oct. 21, 2009

Submitted by Ray Mysterio, and the spiders from Mars

David Bowie is the only rock artist I can think of that crossed the genres of glam, art, and prog rock to soul and R&B WHILE inventing androgynous alter egos for himself (Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust) WHILE becoming a sex icon. Also, he was in

(He’s also not a half bad actor too — anyone else see him play Tesla in The Prestige?)

More Bowie after the jump.
