Epic Win: Crocodile Dundee

Oct. 14, 2009

Submitted and Written by Xavier B, possibly Australian

Crocodile Dundee was the second most bad ass australin ever (Steve Irwin, RIP). Dundee had no fear and made sure no one messed with him and his lady.

We adore Crocodile Dundee in the States, but what do Australians think of the movie? Well, it’s actually the highest grossing film of all time (adjusted for inflation) in the Land Down Under.

And the second highest grossing film of all time? Last year’s Baz Luhrmann film, Australia, which was both critically and commercial panned in the U.S. I’m going to make a film called Australia: A Movie About Australians, The Best People Ever.

Epic Win: The Fox and the Hound

Oct. 12, 2009

The Fox and the Hound is an underrated animated classic from the Disney canon. It’s actually a pretty clever parable about prejudice that thoughtfully challenges how society determines exactly what we’re supposed to do.

Whoa!

Epic Win: Hocus Pocus

I will never understand why this movie wasn’t a HUGE HIT. It’s a classic. I never get tired of it. I had to buy this DVD for my movie collection.

Definitely underrated. This cast is a win: Bette Middler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy (voice of Peggy on King of the Hill).

How much do I love A Christmas Story? Enough to have seriously considered buying a replica of the Leg Lamp.

Epic Win: Little Shop of Horrors

This ‘86 adaptation of the off-Broadway show was a musical that appealed to even people who don’t usually enjoy musicals (read: me). But that’s to be expected when the director is Frank Oz — the original voice of your favorite Muppets and your favorite Jedi Masters from the swamp planet of Dagobah.
