Epic Win: Black Top Four Square

Jul. 13, 2009

Submitted and Written by Ali K

Black top four square!! Ultimate recess game. Simple yet endlessly entertaining, all that was needed was chalk, a rubber ball, and some kids. When the ball is bounced into your square you must then bounce it back out without hitting twice in your own square, otherwise you are out. Every time a player gets out, the rest rotate and an alternate enters. The goal was to become and maintain the position of King for the duration of recess. Incorporating cool moves was the best, including but not limited to; bouncing the ball sky high with a “baby bomb”; bouncing the ball unexpectedly low to the ground for a “midget”; through the legs like “Michael Jordan”; and anything else our young minds could come up with. Where playground ended and asphalt began, the game of four square was there.

Epic Win: Super Elastic Bubble Plastic

This stuff was awesome for making bubbles, but we had no idea you could roll it and make superballs out of it too! For such a simple concept, blowing a durable, catchable bubble was worth hours of entertainment.

We can’t even remember what our gym teachers used to make us use these for but we all remember shenanigans we used to pull when our teacher had his back turned. The fun ultimately ended when someone lost a tooth though…

We’re at a loss for words here… Nobody in the office knows what this is or why it got good votes. Do you know what it is? Did you have one when you were a kid? Was it epic? Please tell us how epic it was, because we’re at a loss for words.
The video makes it look pretty cool though:

Epic Win: Monkey Bars

Monkey Bars are an essential and epic part of childhood! Nevermind that it was just a couple of bars spaced just far enough apart that kids could swing from them, there was so much more to do on them! You could climb up on top and do Cherry drops, Double Unders, and more. Whole days could be wasted just swinging back and forth across them, followed by running up, down, around and through whatever structure usually accompanied the Monkey Bars.
