Epic Win: JELL-O Pops

Apr. 24, 2009

In stark contrast to today’s children’s snack food commercials, these seem so naive and innocent. They present the Jell-O pudding pops as something appetizing and delicious for children, while also appealing to parents with their healthy calorie claims. Today’s brands wouldn’t dare announce their calorie count on television or they would have to dress it up with clever marketing by using the per serving claims (and then announce that a serving is only 1/4 of the Popsicle).
To top it all off, they have Bill Cosby, who’s pudding pop commercials were epic and impressions of them and of Cosby have become part of our pop culture lexicon.

Epic Win: Tastee Freez

Apr. 13, 2009

once upon a win

If you grew up with a Tastee Freez in your neighborhood, or on the way to a relative’s house, or were just passing through and stopped, you know what we’re talking about when we say we totally miss the Tastee Freez. Fortunately, there’s still a few around and you can still get Tastee Freez soft-serve from select Wienerschnitzel locations.

Also, do you remember Tee and Eff?

Sugary cartoon character flavored goodness! Little Orphan Orange? Check. Alexander the Grape? Check. Poncho Punch? Check.

Not only were Otter Pops awesome when we were kids, now that we’re adults, we can melt them a little bit and they make great mixers!

If it involves making noise and pissing off parents, it’s guaranteed to be an epic win! Now that we’re older, they also make great party conversation starters, as demonstrated here:

Epic sugar high is more like it. This was the first truly sugar-filled cereal, with chocolate cereal goodness mixed in with marshmallows. A bowl of this and it was off to the races!
