Epic Win: ABC Weekend Special

Feb. 28, 2009

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by M Bailey

Although a lot of the children’s literature that ABC Weekend Special covered wasn’t as good as reading the book, it definitely exposed us to stories we may have never known about otherwise. It may have even inspired a few of us to go read the book.
What’s your favorite ABC Weekend Special episode?

Epic Win: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

Feb. 27, 2009

Submitted by D Vazquez

Do it Rockapella! It’s so hard to not sing along with Rockapella. Remember how awesome this show was? And we were learning while we watched! We heard rumors that some teachers even let their kids watch episodes instead of giving actual History and Geography lessons.
The best part was it was kind of a nerdy show so the contestants were always fairly awkward 12-year-olds, as demonstrated by Gregg in the video above.

Epic Win: The Magic School Bus

Feb. 19, 2009

Submitted by J Wallace

Magic School Bus was like an encyclopedia article presented in cartoon form. Each week they’d come up with some absurd reason to journey into the Earth’s crust or into outer space, get into trouble, get out of trouble and get home in time that their parents wouldn’t balk the next time the kids came home with a field-trip permission slip.
It’s a shame real field-trips aren’t like this. I wonder if the Magic School Bus kids ever had to write boring, cumbersome reports about what they did all day when they got home?

PS. The Horror! She’s REAL!

Epic Win: Bill Nye the Science Guy

Jan. 29, 2009

Submitted by C Conders

The reason kids these days are so poorly educated is because they don’t have nerd-crack like Bill Nye to keep them interested in the things they were learning in school. Bill Nye could make just about anything interesting.

Look at this – Bill Nye is teaching us about mammals using Suicidal Tendencies’ “Institutionalized”:

Epic Win: You Can’t Do That On Television

Jan. 20, 2009

Submitted by J Leadbetter

You Can’t Do That On Television is probably best known for two things. The first is Slime:

The second is launching the career of Alanis Morissette (on the right, getting the green stuff):
