Epic Win: AT&T “You Will” Commercials

Oct. 8, 2009

Submitted and Written by Ian W

These ads from the early 90’s were actually quite prophetic.

I know we just featured a classic AT&T ad, but this one jumped right off the voting pages. It’s almost creepy how well a lot of the technologies in this ad are available now.

AT&T: good at predicting the future, bad at giving me reception on my cell phone.

Epic Win: Sure Deodorant Commercials

Oct. 7, 2009

Submitted and Written by Janine and Chris

I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner. I played the Zest commercial for my friend and she immediately started talking about the Sure deodorant commericals where the Sure people would raise their arms triumphantly for whatever reason and the unsure people kept their arms at their sides and looked like handicapped chickens. The music in it reminds me of the Ferris Bueller “Ohhhh yeahhh” music.

Epic Win: Parkay Margarine Commercials

Oct. 6, 2009

Submitted and Written by Jennifer B

I had this memory flash back to me while in the grocery store today. The old Parkay commercials with the talking tubs.

Before I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! (yes, the exclamation point is part of the brand name), Kraft was trying to fool people into thinking Parkay Margarine was, in fact, just as good as real butter… with the use of terrifying talking containers.

Deacon Jones is also awesome. There’s a reason they nicknamed him the “Secretary of Defense.”

Epic Win: 1-800 Call AT&T Commercials

Sep. 29, 2009

This must have really worked because 11 years later I am still singing that stupid jingle.

RIP PAYPHONES AND PAGERS!!!

And collect call numbers too. Remember when calling long distance was a big deal? Now we all have cell phones because we’re living in the future. THE FUTURE!

Anyway, those Call AT&T ads feature David Arquette at his best. I wish I was joking.

Epic Win: Mentos Wet Paint Commercial

Sep. 25, 2009

As you guys can probably tell, I’m a sucker for great jingles. Mentos’s “The Freshmaker” campaign had among the best of catchy commercial songs. Forget the fact that adding more wet paint to his suit only makes it look worse. He’s eating Mentos: the pacemaker widowmaker haymaker freshmaker.

More people who overcome small wardrobe-related inconveniences by eating mints after the jump.
