Epic Win: Encyclopedia Britannica Commercials

Oct. 21, 2009

Submitted by Mike K, lover of snarky voiceovers

Okay, so the kid is pretty annoying (no more annoying than the Dell guy though), but it doesn’t make these commercials any less iconic. I do think it’s funny that they try to pitch the Encyclopedia Britannica as something you’d sit down on your couch and read from cover to cover.

Epic Win: Mr. Bucket

Oct. 18, 2009

Come on, he pops the balls out of his mouth! If you didn’t know this in middle school, and use it in the “wrong sense,” you weren’t getting the ’90s…

I have often made the same joke, but I honestly thought the jingle went: “I’m Mr. Bucket; put your balls in my mouth.” Anyway, pretty catchy song. Second to maybe Gator Golf. Anyone remember Gator Golf?

Epic Win: Kit Kat Commercials

Oct. 15, 2009

Submitted and Written by Josh H, chocoholic

I just saw a commercial on television for Kit Kat Bars, and I remembered the good old commercials they used to have with the very catchy song: “Give me a break, give me a break. Break me off a piece of that KIT KAT BAR!”

Neat fact: Kit Kats have become popular in Japan recently because it sounds so similar to kitto katsu, which translates to “You will surely win!” Apparently that makes them good luck charms.

Also, pretend that video stops at 0:30.

Epic Win: Keep America Beautiful Commercials

Oct. 13, 2009

Submitted by Mary C

Generic stereotyped Native American does not like the way you treat his land!

Keep America Beautiful was established in 1953, about fifty years before environmentalism and “going green” became the cool thing all the cool kids were doing to be cool. Way cool. In addition to launching the iconic Crying Indian PSA, they also coined the term litterbug.

Epic Win: Grey Poupon Commercials

Oct. 10, 2009

These commercials were as epic to me as the Mentos guy, “This Is Your Brain on Drugs,” and the native american crying over garbage. Even as a small child, I dreamed of riding with a driver and making a delicious sandwich at the same time. All while having a cute British accent, of course.

Grey Poupon parodies after the jump.
