Spy vs. Spy was a staple of MAD Magazine back in the ’60s when it was funny and continues on today. The cartoon was created by Cuban cartoonist Antonio Prohias, who fled to the U.S. days before Castro took over the country’s free press. Naturally, Spy vs. Spy is about the Cold War — but I suppose Black and White never really got the lesson on tit-for-tat.

They also made a few cartoon shorts that are pretty good. Here’s one:

Captain America has been around since 1941! How Epic is that? He’s traveled through alternate futures, traveled through time, and even caused the creation of an alternate universe. He doesn’t even have super powers, just an indestructible shield with which he’s been kicking ass for the last 68 years. He died back in 2007, but they couldn’t even keep him dead – he’s been resurrected in a new series that just hit the shelves.

Batman: The Animated Series was on during regular cartoon hours, but was not your average kid’s program. It was unapologeticly dark and awesome. Some even say it’s the best screen adaptation of the Batman comics.
Whatever it was, there were a lot of us that would religiously plop our behinds down on the couch to watch every afternoon.

Clerks came out at a time when all of the movies were so cookie-cutter and stale and it was like a giant breath of fresh air. Nobody expected to walk out of their neighborhood video store with a movie containing scenes like the 37 dicks dialogue, Randall’s Happy Scrappy scene, and the Chiclets gum guy, not to mention one of the most epic duo’s in film history: Jay & Silent Bob.
Dante and Randall said all of the things that we were too afraid to say, and they said it so bluntly that we propelled a comic book nerd’s debut project into the annals of cult film history.

Calvin & Hobbes taught us everything we needed to know as kids. Girls are gross. Build forts out of furniture. Daydream in class. Go outside as often as possible.

But one of the most important things Calvin & Hobbes taught us about were all of the sinister things that lurk beyond childhood. Things that we were quickly approaching such as how to keep your imagination alive so you don’t become a soul-suckingly boring old person like your parents, don’t smoke cigarettes, and always laugh at life, no matter how depressing it got. And always laugh in the face of intimidation.
