Epic Win: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Jun. 29, 2009

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was an Epic Win for turning any seemingly harmless brook, bridge, or foggy night into a spooky, impassable path. It inspired fear in so many of us as youth. One of our writers (at the time, a grown man) often recounts not being able to stay in the theater anytime the trailer for the ‘99 version of Sleep Hollow starring Johnny Depp came on.
It’s amazing that a story almost 190 years old can still inspire so much fear.

Epic Win: Julia Child

Not only did Julia Child bring a lot of great French culinary practice into the American living, both through her encyclopedia of a book, to her long-running cooking show, she was also a freakin’ spy! How cool is that?! “Here, try my paté… PS. where do you keep all of your sensitive government documents?”

Epic Win: High Fidelity

Jun. 20, 2009

High Fidelity was an Epic Win of the ’90s and a quintessential film for anyone who enjoys quality music… And hipsters. High Fidelity is the movie we all wish we could sit down and force-feed to every teeny bopper who has no idea what it means to listen to really enjoy music. It also helps that it’s got the likes of John Cusak, Jack Black, and Tim Robbins in it.

Epic Win: USA Up All Night

Jun. 19, 2009

Submitted by Henry T

USA Up All Night was the legendary home of every terrible movie ever made during the ’80s and ’90s. They featured all of the classic Troma movies, Bikini Car Wash movies, B Horror flicks, etc. If you’re a fan of B films, it’s probably because you used to watch USA Up All Night. Who else would get in trouble for being “hungover” from watching B flicks until 4am? Mostly we’d sneak to the living room and watch on a really low volume, unless you were lucky enough to have a tv in your bedroom.

Epic Win: Jim Varney

Jun. 19, 2009

Submitted by Laurens B

Jim Varney was an epic part of any childhood that spanned the ’80s or ’90s. Anyone that grew up in that era has probably seen Ernest Goes to Camp about a billion times.
