Epic Win: Marvin the Martian

Oct. 16, 2009

Submitted and Written by Mike, Martian sympathizer

Marvin has tried to destroy the Earth with his “Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator”, because, as he says, it obstructs his view of Venus.

“Where’s the kaboom? There was supposed to be a an earth shattering KABOOM!”

Epic Win: The Fox and the Hound

Oct. 12, 2009

Submitted and Written by Caitlin E, Cory Feldman fan

The Fox and the Hound is an underrated animated classic from the Disney canon. It’s actually a pretty clever parable about prejudice that thoughtfully challenges how society determines exactly what we’re supposed to do.

Whoa!

Epic Win: The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show

Oct. 6, 2009

Submitted and Written by Kim D

Though I’m not old enough to remember seeing Rocky and Bullwinkle on TV, I still have my VHS collection. Many rainy days were spent watching Rocky and Bullwinkle continually outwit Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale. Anyone else remember when the Civil War met football in the Wossamatta U story arc?

Epic Win: The Death of Starscream

Oct. 2, 2009

Submitted and Written by Jose S

In 1986, while fans were still reeling from the soul-crushing deaths of fan-favorites like Optimus Prime and Ironhide (as well as the miracle-working mech medics who probably could have saved them, Ratchet and Wheeljack), Transformers: The Movie added one more dead body to the pile by giving Starscream the most flashy and undeservedly cool-looking death in non-anime cartoon history.

I recall that Starscream continues to be present in a ghost-like form, kind of like that book, The Lovely Bones. (Wow, I never expected to discuss Transformers and The Lovely Bones in the same sentence.)

Epic Win: Celebrity Deathmatch

Oct. 1, 2009

Submitted by Alex B

I’ve always had a soft spot from claymation, especially when used to animate movie stars and musicians beating the living hell out of each other. MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch was extraordinarily violent, even in an era where Mortal Kombat ruled Sega Geneses (Genesises?) everywhere. It also reminds me of when MTV had original content that didn’t involve some girl scanning her boyfriend’s bed with a blacklight.

You can watch a few free episodes from MTV.
