Epic Win: Dr. Seuss

Mar. 12, 2009

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by Johnny’s Girl

If your childhood wasn’t touched by Dr. Seuss, you should probably run out to the nearest bookstore right away and catch up. Every Christmas, families across the globe sit down and watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Green Eggs and Ham is like required reading for young’uns. Most importantly though, Dr. Seuss cleverly disguised socio-political messages in his books, like The Butter Battle Book, which was a criticism of the Cold War.

Epic Win: Duck Tales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by R Russell

How many of you can sing along with the theme song? And better yet, how many time have you gotten into an argument over what the lyrics are actually saying?
Oh the adventures they would have. Remember how Webby was practically the original Meg Griffin (shunned outcast of the family). Huey, Dewey, and Louie would always make fun of her and then the episode would revolve around having to save her from some perilous situation she got into trying to prove them wrong.

Epic Win: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Mar. 9, 2009

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by J Wallace

TMNT will always be heroes in a half shell. Splinter is the radical rat, Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines,
Raphael is cool but crude, and Michelangelo is a party dude. That’s how it is and how it will always be. When the evil Shredder attacks, those turtle boys don’t cut ‘em no slack. (and that’s a fact jack).
Have you seen the new TMNT? Whoever thought that was a good idea, should be fired and never allowed near a script again.
Here’s the original opening (and below the jump are the two newer renditions that are horrifyingly terrible in comparison – not to mention it’s just not the same without Townsend Coleman voicing Michaelangelo):

Epic Win: Voltron

Mar. 7, 2009

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by T Daelemans

Going back and rewatching Voltron, you get the sense that the plot for every episode is this: Witch Haggar and Prince Lotor cook up an evil plot. Voltron comes to the rescue, eventually forming Voltron and slicing a giant monster in half. End episode.
That’s okay though! Voltron was still totally awesome for all of the things it did in between its fabricated plot lines. For instance, who remembers the scene where the gang goes swimming in the lake below the castle after kicking some monster ass? We sure do! That was the episode where Princess Allura dives into the lake and loses her bikini top, then Pidge comments on her perfect form.

Apparently Voltron still lives on! See how the next generation is carrying on Voltron’s good name.

Epic Win: Danger Mouse

Mar. 3, 2009

Submitted by H Waters

Danger Mouse was great fun for kids whose Dad’s were into Bond-style films. Danger Mouse could always get out of a fix and he always rescued Penfold in the nick of time. Penfold was also great for comedic relief and getting DM into trouble:
