Epic Win: Candy Necklaces

Jun. 13, 2009

Submitted and written by Nicole O

Ahhh, the candy necklace. What kid didn’t love these? You could parade around, pretending you were a princess, pirate, or anything else that wears cool necklaces, then you could amaze others by eating your colorful jewels! They came in a zillion different flavors, and let’s face it, these things are pure sugar- perfect for getting those highs you need to pull an all-nighter at your slumber party. Even teens aren’t ashamed to wear these epic wins because, hey- they’re amazingly cool! Long live the candy necklaces, rings, watches, and lipstick- and any other candy jewelry those geniuses at the candy companies can dream up.

Epic Win: Chiclets Gum

Chiclets Gum is probably the most commonly used filler for diner candy machines round the world, which is why every American has probably tried at least once to chew a ball of Chiclets gum comprised of at least 10 pieces until their jaw hurts. Who didn’t have at least one friend that tried to see how many pieces he could shove in his mouth before he couldn’t chew any longer? Especially if it involved taunting the kid who didn’t have a quarter to get some of his own…
He looked something like this bizarro Thai Chiclets ad we found:

Then as an adult, many of us rekindled our relationship with Chiclets when we tried to quit smoking. It became such a cultural phenom that even Kevin Smith took at a dig at Chiclets’ marketing gurus on Clerks:

Epic Win: Charms Blow Pop Commercial

May. 13, 2009

Submitted by Katherine B

Another great commercial from the ’80s and ’90s. This was a staple of Saturday Morning cartoons which in turn gave us incentive to ride our bikes to the local corner store to get a Blow Pop. Blow Pops were also awesome for changing our mouths different colors, which was always a plus when we were kids.

Epic Win: Lip Smackers Lip Gloss

once upon a win

Submitted by Jordan N

Mmmmm… Just what we always wanted Good & Plenty licorice flavored lip gloss.

Even though Lip Smackers are still around, we’re giving them an epic win for going out on a limb during that magical time we like to call the 80’s and providing us with all kinds of wacky lip gloss flavors.
