Epic Win: Charlotte’s Web

Nov. 2, 2009

Submitted and Written by Travis S, [insert swine flu joke here]

I wasn’t sure if this submission was referring to the classic E. B. White novel or the animated musical it was adapted into. But both are wins, for sure. (We don’t talk about the 2006 live-action film.)

Epic Win: Encyclopedia Britannica Commercials

Oct. 21, 2009

Submitted by Mike K, lover of snarky voiceovers

Okay, so the kid is pretty annoying (no more annoying than the Dell guy though), but it doesn’t make these commercials any less iconic. I do think it’s funny that they try to pitch the Encyclopedia Britannica as something you’d sit down on your couch and read from cover to cover.

Epic Win: Bread and Jam for Frances

Oct. 16, 2009

bread-and-jam

Submitted by Noelle C, badger badger badger

I think we can all relate to Bread and Jam for Frances. Lots of kids go through a phase where they only want to eat one food — grilled cheese, PBJ, chicken fingers, etc. (Personally, I was a hot dog kid.) Frances only wants to eat bread and jam, so her parents let her eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. See where this lesson is going? Bread and Jam for Frances is the only kids book I know that teaches healthy eating habits.

Epic Win: Love You Forever

Oct. 9, 2009

once upon a win

Submitted by Kayla R

Robert Munsch’s Love You Forever is one of the best selling children’s books of all time AND one of the most adorable. It’s extraordinarily heartfelt. Maria Shriver says she has never read the book without crying. I wonder if she reads it to Arnold before bedtime.

Epic Win: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Sep. 30, 2009

ChickaChickaBoomBoom

Submitted and Written by Rachel S

Who doesn’t love a good story about the alphabet climbing a tree? “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, will there be enough room?” such suspense!

I realize the image is for the audiobook, featuring Ray Charles. Can anyone find me an audio clip?
