Epic Win: Boy Meets World

Jul. 17, 2009

Submitted by Lisa A

Boy Meets World’s seven-season run was classic from beginning to end. Cory Matthews represented the awkward adolescent in all of us, and Mr. Feeney represented the weird teacher that stalked us from middle school through college.

But seriously, is Topanga even a real name?

Epic Win: Pop-Up Video

Jul. 16, 2009

Submitted by HooterSampzon13

When Pop-Up Video debuted on VH1 in 1996, it quickly became the channel’s highest-rated show. The format was simple: play campy music videos while word bubbles popped up with brilliant trivia nuggets about the band and video. Where else would you learn that actress Diane Keaton directed Belinda Carlisle’s video for “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” that Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” video took six weeks to complete (they usually take two days), or that George Michael of Wham! used to stuff shuttlecocks down his pants?

Epic Win: Headbangers Ball

Jul. 14, 2009

Submitted by Melanie H

Music Videos on MTV deserve a Win for nostalgia by themselves, but then you throw in metal and it becomes Epic. Why’d you love The Ball? Who was your favorite artist that you discovered during the wee-hours that Headbangers Ball broadcast?

Epic Win: Zorro

Remember when Zorro was about more than just poorly executed CGI and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ boobs? It was a simpler time, when kids regarded him as a hero and would emulate him by cutting masks out of their mother’s best fabric instead of regarding him as just another crappy Hollywood remake.

Epic Win: Killer Tofu by The Beets

Jul. 10, 2009

Submitted by David W

Even though we just covered Doug last week, The Beets deserve their own Epic Win for being a totally catchy, totally fictional rock band. Inspired by the Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones and other famous British bands, The Beets captured our attention just as much as they did Doug, with hits like Killer Tofu on the Beetmania tour. Just try watching the video without getting it stuck in your head. We dare ya.
