Epic Win: How Crayons Are Made

Jun. 9, 2009

Submitted by Jennifer B

Sesame Workshops’ How Crayons Are Made was an Epic Win for all of the curious kids that always wanted to know how something worked or how it was made or why it did what it did. We wonder how many kids tried to melt the crayons and make their own colors after watching this though.

Epic love letters and gossip notes were just a few of the creations made possible by Gel Pens. Does anyone else have memories of getting in trouble for using these on papers, exams, etc.? Or getting them taken away for arguing over who gets to use them?
Some of us kept using them as we got older and the results are beautiful:

Epic win for anything Play-Doh related! Double win for having such a long-lasting name (32 years and counting) even though the name has become at least slightly inappropriate.

Epic Win: Paint with Water

Apr. 13, 2009

once upon a win

Submitted by Susan O

Even though we didn’t know it, our parents were totally tricking us into doing art when we they gave us the watercolor Paint with Water books. It’s a shame most of us never graduated to painting with water without the books as a guide, however, many a masterpiece, torn from the book, were hung from our refrigerators. Most of our masterpieces are probably still filed away in some folder or file, waiting to be remembered.

Epic Win: Etch-A-Sketch

once upon a win

What was so fascinating about the Etch-A-Sketch? Most of us can’t create anything worth looking at on it, however, we all aspired to be Etch-A-Sketch artists. It was an iconic toy of the 60’s and 70’s and is still popular today, but we just can’t put our finger on what made this toy such a huge hit.

Maybe we all just wanted to be like this guy:
