Nov. 6, 2009

Submitted by Rahim G, clear, wonderful, lemon and lime

Way better than those “Make 7Up Yours” ads. Or at least less offensive.

Bonnie Tyler Owns ’80s Music Video Thursday

Nov. 5, 2009

We’re back with more awesomely bad videos. As always, leave your suggestions for next week in the comments.

“Tainted Love” by Soft Cell submitted by CosmykDolfyn
OMFGLOOKOUT! Glow-in-the-dark spotted dancers! Random fireball! Floating head in space! Gaaahh!

“Tired of Toein’ the Line” by Rocky Burnette submitted by QuoteMan
Playing instruments often involves dancing around like it’s a slumber party.

“Holding Out for a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler submitted by StreakyTSC
By which she means holding out for a cowboy dressed in white to murder a bunch of cowboys dressed in black.

“Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler
StreakyTSC reminded me of this video. The song is epic; the video is ridiculously nonsensical. Srsly, WHAT IS GOING ON???

Epic Win: Independence Day

Nov. 4, 2009

Submitted by Kevin S, who would make a more believable president than Bill Pullman

ABC just aired their remake of V, the original of which clearly inspired Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day, so it seemed appropriate to post today. When it was released, Independence Day became the second highest grossing film of all time, and even for a blockbuster that relies so heavily on special effects, it’s held up remarkably well.

Memorable Will Smith quotes include:

“No, you did NOT shoot that green shit at me!”
“Welcome to Earth, bitch.” (though he pronounces Earth like Urf)
“Parents just don’t understand.”

Okay, maybe not the last one.

Epic Win: Sidney Poitier

Nov. 4, 2009

Submitted by JD, actor, film director, author, and diplomat

Sir Sidney Poitier is credited with legitimizing black actors in mainstream cinema. He refused to play into racial stereotypes, even though most roles for black actors demanded. Also, does anyone remember that episode of South Park where he fights Mecha Streisand?
