ALPHIE was an 80s toy that I absolutely loved. It was the early version of all of the ‘Leapster’ type stuff now Math skills, animal noises, a ‘twenty questions’ type game. He really had it all. I still have mine, it still works, and now my daughter plays with it!

Calling it a computer might be a stretch…

There once was a time when “Nick” meant something. During that time, an orange tape meant pure happiness.

WerewolfCyote gets it. The orange tapes weren’t significant for their color, but for what they stood for. The Nickelodeon glory days ended a long time ago. If you look closely at the photo, there are some pretty win choices there too: Harriet the Spy, Ren and Stimpy, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

“Warrior needs food… badly!”. “Your life force is running out!”. Were you a warrior? Elf? Valkyrie? Wizard? From Atari, this fantasy-themed arcade game from the 80’s almost always had every single one of it’s 4 player slots taken by kids furiously jamming more and more change in to it in order to avoid dying and losing your spot to someone else. And that narrator’s voice… some of his sayings will never leave my head! Next time it’s approaching lunch or dinner hour, say “Warrior needs food!” and you’ll more than likely get some nostalgic laughter out of several people around you.

Anime is pretty tricky territory — people either love it or hate it. But if there was ever one film that could convince the nonbelievers, it was 1988’s Akira, well regarded not just within circles of anime fans, but film buffs. Akira was shortlisted on Empire’s 500 Greatest Films of All Time.

These were all the rage between 1997-1999. Girls loved to put front “corn-row” styles in the front of their hair with different color butterflies. The best ones were the glitter kind! Unfortunately, the wings broke off very easily…

Apparently butterfly clips were really dangerous. Who knew?

I chipped one of my front teeth with a butterfly clip. I had it in my mouth, biting the wings together with my front teeth so the spring was tight, jumped on my bed and accidentally released the spring, which made the clip spring back open and somehow chip my tooth.

To which Dodge replies:

you chipped your tooth w/ a butterfly clip? well i cracked my head open with some of them. in kindergarten, one of my friends was pushing me on a tire swing, and i fell off and my head hit the ground, and the butterfly clips actually went into my head. i had to go to the ER and get staples in my head (like stitches…) but i loved butterfly clips. they were so pretty:) ah, i miss the old days.
