Epic Win: The Land Before Time

Sep. 1, 2009

Every kid goes through a dinosaur phase, and for me, The Land Before Time was the trigger. Although I kept calling my dinosaurs “sharp tooths” instead of carnivores.

Also, I think The Land Before Time is the only movie franchise to have spawned four thousand sequels.

Epic Win: Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by K Reynolds

I remember using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing in computer class. There was a level where you were racing a car. It was way cooler than it sounds, I swear. I never did catch that car though…

Nowadays, kids don’t need software to teach them how to type. No, they’re totally wired in, sending text messages every ten seconds. Damn kids!

Epic Win: Kenner Star Wars Action Figures

Aug. 31, 2009

Submitted by J Chadwick

It’s a trap!

Kenner released the original Star Wars action figures between ‘77 and ‘85 and sold over 300 million (ridiculous!). These also became popular again when the line was reintroduced alongside the Star Wars: Special Edition trilogy. Kenner was eventually absorbed by corporate toy machine Hasbro.

These also fetch a pretty penny now, as long as you didn’t remove them from the packaging. But I guess that means you didn’t have any fun as a kid, now did you?

Here’s a cool site where you can see all the figures and learn more than you would ever care to know about them. (It’s kind of funny how under News it says “no current news.”)

Epic Win: Tonka Trucks

Once Upon A Win

Submitted by N Eversole

Tonka Trucks have been around since the ’50s. It’s perhaps one of the few brands that your parents also played with when they were kids, except when your folks had them, they were made of metal. Anyone know when they switched from metal to plastic?

Once Upon A Win

This was a classic cartoon with an equally classic theme song. Let’s try and ignore those remakes with Steve Martin.
