Epic Win: Clueless

Submitted by Veronica C, who loves Billie Holliday.

Clueless helped define ’90s culture; its fashion and slang influenced the zeitgeist in a serious way. I still hear people quote this movie (If only 1995 was the last time I ever heard “as if!”), and the recent passing of Brittany Murphy (who co-starred in the film) had people talking, once again, about their favorite clueless valley girls. Any scenes that have stuck with you over the last 15 years? Or maybe you would like to lament about the horrid television series spawned after the film became successful? Tell us in the comments.

  1. Jon says:

Trivia time: Britanny Murphy, of course, did the voice of LuAnn Platter on King of the Hill. For the first few seasons, she also did the voice of Bobby Gribble. Then Bobby went through puberty, and for ther rest of the series, Bobby’s voice was done by Breckin Meyer, who co-starred with Brittany in Clueless!

    • smartinist says:

Fail! Breckin Meyer did the voice of Joseph Gribble after puberty… Pamela Aldon was the voice of Bobby Hill for the entire run of the series.

  2. Libby says:

The best thing about Clueless is that it is one of the most hilariously awesome adaptations of Jane Austen’s Emma. Ever.

  3. smartinist says:

Speaking of the movie and the TV series, Donald Faison did both as the character Murray before becoming Dr. Christopher Turk on the show Scrubs.

  4. lalala says:

i watched this movie yesterday, before i ever saw this post. haha, what a coincidence!

  5. Dave says:

Absolutely one of my favorite movies! It’s a sad day if there isn’t an opportunity to cite Clueless. My favorite line? “Tai: You’re a virgin that can’t drive. Cher: That was like way harsh, Tai.”

  6. Kat says:

My favorite quote (well, for the moment… how can I pick just one?!)… “Getting off the freeway makes you realize how important love is.”

  7. just1girl says:

    “I totally paused!”

  8. sgtjake says:

This is my sisters favorite movie! When she gets married, and I’m giving my speech, I’m going to turn to the groom, and slightly misquote my favorite line: “If you do anything to upset my sister(daughter), I have a .45 and a shovel. I doubt that anuyone would miss you.”

  9. geekyteacher says:

What I loved most is the scene where the girls are walking through the school hallways, while chatting on their mobiles. The minute they bump into eachother in the halls, they turn off their phones and continue their conversation face-to-face without missing a beat!
We used to act this out in school once we had finally gotten our own mobiles… :p
