Epic Win: McDonald’s Treat of the Week

win pics, mcdonald's treat of the week

Submitted by Katrina G, treat of the year:

Before the days of the Happy Meal, the ‘Treat of the Week’ existed. All you had to do was ask for it, and it was yours, no strings attached. Same great toys as the happy meals, but completely free. I miss the good old days!

» 25 Blasts From The Past

  1. Meredith says:

    Wasn’t this only in Canada?

    • Comrade Question says:

nope! I still remember gettin em all the time when theyd make McDonalds trips for us when I was in day care

  2. sallysweet says:

I have the drink, the fries, and the nuggets floating around somewhere. I’m pretty sure they came in Happy Meals. Never heard of treat of the week, although it sounds equally awesome.

  3. Megan-Marie says:

We got ‘em in Happy Meals and they were awesome! The little guy in the ice cream cone was my fave, but I think we had ‘em all except the drink and the happy meal box.

  4. Mark, Sr. says:

Musta been only somewhere else, ’cause in the US, Happy Meals have been around since, at least, the 80’s. That’s when I started working for Mickey D’s.

    • MLD says:

I agree–I’m 31, and I remember back more than 25 years, and always remember the old school happy meals in the little cardboard box with the golden arches for a handle

  5. garooob says:

I have the Big Mac and Chicken McNuggets. My sister has the drink and fries and we got them in New York!

  6. V says:

I’m pretty sure the toys shown are from Happy Meals. At least where I live, “treats of the week” were usually much cheaper toys or games than those shown, and they co-existed with the Happy Meal.

  7. LolPandaCat says:

Quite a blast from the past.

  8. brian manns says:

OMG I still have my fry one I wonder how much it’s worth now?

  9. thatguy says:

OMG! I love these! I have all of them except the shake and burger!

ps… they weren’t just in Canada, we had them in FL.

  10. Anon says:

I actually found the nuggets one just the other day while i was sorting out some old stuff, i remember having others but no idea where they could be, also i got them in England.

  11. Big Mike says:

HAHAHA, My mom still has this entire set at their house. There were more than what’s in this pic too. She has them all, can’t believe she saved them.

  12. does anyone remember the robot ones?? same thing only they were like transformers… i STILL have both the dinos and robots :)

  13. Damian says:

haha i still have all but the ice cream one in fact the drink is sitting on my nephew’s shelf right now i was playing with it last night while i was putting him to bed.

  14. notolaf says:

Couldn’t have been too much before the Happy Meals, since one of them IS a happy meal!

  15. OMGAWESOMESAUCE says:

Oh my god I loooove these toys. I have the fries, the ice cream, the shake, and the burger in my basement! Too bad my dog thought they were the cat’s cheezburgehs!

  16. When were these toys made? A neighbor gave my son the shake monster years ago, and he still loves it.

I remember getting a Happy Meal on my way to see Star Wars in the theaters when it was first released. As in the very first Star Wars, so mid- to late-1970s. The first prizes were things like erasers and tiny molded rubber animals, as I recall. Nothing so cool as Shake Monster (and his friends).

  17. Robert D. says:

What’s sad is that I still have the complete set of these toys floating around in my garage somewhere.

  18. Candy says:

Those are in fact Happy Meal toys. A previous commenter got it right – the “treat of the week” was a 100% free cheaper toy, puzzle, mini magazine, etc. that had nothing to do with the Happy Meal. All you had to do was ask for it. Sometimes when I was a kids in the mid-eighties era, I would go into McDonalds for the treat of the week, and not even order anything else.

  19. Cocoa says:

Haha i still have the soda cup one! And I’m French! So imagine how many kids around the world had these in their Happy Meals and still own them today. ^^

  20. myntee says:

i remember these! best mcdonalds toy ever! literally the only ones i cared about collecting
