Epic Win: The Adventures of Pete & Pete

Submitted by Gina R, the strongest woman…in the world!

The Adventures of Pete and Pete began as minute-long shorts aired between programs on Nickelodeon in 1989. The shorts were popular, and the rest, as they say, is history. The show ran for three seasons, from 1993 to 1996. It was silly and surreal and was a favorite among most of the people in my age bracket. It also boasted a pretty impressive list of guest stars, including Debbie Harry, Selma Blair, Michael Stipe, Janeane Garofalo, and LL Cool J. The first two seasons are available on DVD, so if this was a childhood favorite, check ‘em out! And tell us about your favorite episodes in the comments.

  1. Bill says:

I was 30 years old when this show was on, and it was definitely a favorite in my “age bracket” :) The music was great, and I still sometimes listen to the opening theme song “Hey Sandy”. I’d be hard-pressed to call for a favorite episode.

  2. me says:

    “I am a dot. I am a dot. I am a dot.”

  3. TimK says:

    This show ROCKS.

A few years back, before there were any official DVD releases of it, I got a full set of all episodes, including the shorts, from someone. Wasn’t expensive and well worth it, especially now that it appears Season 3 will never be officially released. :(

  4. slapmastered says:

I’m with Bill…the theme song to Pete & Pete was the epitome of AWESOME.

I think my favorite episode was the time travel episode, where they have to eat a bunch of Riboflavin before they set their clocks back for Daylight Savings Time…

  5. bdwilcox says:

Filmed in my home town of Cranford, NJ. :)

  6. Miroku says:

I LOVE this show. The music was great, the characters where interesting. And the themes where spot on when I was growing up.

My favorite character would have to be Big Pete, I always liked how he explained things, and carried the show as the older brother point of view.

As for the filming locations, I’ve tried to track them down a few times using Google Earth. Not so much luck, I’m just able to find the parks, and cities. Although I’d like to find the houses to be able to get a picture of them. Even though the Wrigley house changed season to season.

  7. OneCGuy says:

    Two favorite episodes:
Rolling thunder, about their dad’s bowling ball.
The one where young Pete is in a war with the neighbor, and has an underground base. I thought the remote to flush the neighbor’s toilet while he was in the shower, so the water got real hot, was the funniest thing ever.

  8. heidrance says:

Love love love this show! Miss it!
Favorite episodes: little Pete is grounded and attempts to tunnel out of the basement, ruining Dad’s lawn in the process
    and
the mysterious payphone that has been ringing for 27 years
    and
    Orange Lazarus

  9. mike26mbsc says:

Omg I love this show!! My favorite one of all time was the episode where little pete found his favorite song (‘Summerbaby’ by the band Polaris) but he couldn’t find it on the radio so he starts his own band to keep the song in his memory. Believe it or not but that one episode inspired me to pursue Guitar music as a hobby, and taught me that sometimes you have to let the music find you. Corny I know but whatever lol. Great Show!!!

  10. Becka says:

I had forgotten about the ringing payphone! Loved it. My favorite episodes were the one where Little Pete and his friends tried to break a world record by staying up for like 5 days, the one where Big Pete has a history test but keeps getting distracted from studying by the clock flip book someone drew on the corner of his book, and the Halloween one. I didn’t know it was on DVD! Gotta pick this up.

  11. Req says:

Riboflavin helps you travel through time on Daylight Savings, according to Pete & Pete.

Oh god, I loved this show. The theme song was so 90’s as well. I can just listen to it and flash back to thinking I would grow up to be a grunge rocker, wearing flannel and ripped jeans and Doc Martens. …Which I do. Just not the rocker part.

I love the way this show was filmed with a kind of yellow light, like long summer days. Was it Nora who had the candy necklace? “The yellow ones taste like sunshine,” she said.

  12. Allison says:

    The Halloween episode.
The Valentine episode where Open-Face was in love with Ellen.
The road trip episode “Wrigley’s can hold it!” “Well, I’m only half-Wrigley and I have to go pee too!!!”

  13. Jen says:

Haha… This brought back so many memories. Thinking back, I now know where my redhead obsession originated…

  14. tahrey says:

on DVD now? win! i hope it’s made it across the pond though :/

Don’t forget the underwear inspector. I still bug people at barbecues if they haven’t got their fingers sticky, telling them they’re not doing it right…

  15. bubbles says:

when it comes to pete&pete, all i have to say is: inspector 31
