Epic Win: Water Bird Whistles

Submitted and Written by Melanie H, who reminds us that “tweet” used to mean something else entirely.
It seems like these are all I ever won at carnivals as a kid. You put a little water inside of them & when you blew into them, they sort of sounded like a warbling bird. Then your mom would sort of flip her lid from all the noise & make you go outside with it.

FIRST !!!1!
We had them in Norway too. I had a blue one and it may still be in at drawer at my parents house.

Pretty much!
I had a yellow one once, these were the most awesome things ever! I remember trying to call birds with them
they were pretty awesome, I loved them, made you feel talented somehow….
I always used to drink some of the water in it, wtf’s with that?
Another superb piece of nostalgia. The last seven days have been loaded with them.
you were supposed to put water in them?
I had an orange one for years and years!
If you overfilled it, the water shot out the beak when you blew into it, turning it from a whistle into an inaccurate, short-range water pistol.
WATER? FML, no wonder mine never worked. Now I feel stupid. Too bad they didn’t come with instructions… Fail.
I always thought they were the dumbest things!!!!
I, too, never knew about putting water in them.
Oh yeah I won one once at a kind of little carnival at school…it was rather fun.I think I lost my red one when I moved out
Wow I forgot all about those! I used to have a yellow one when I was a kid, loved being able to make the bird sound with it.
they were in Germany too. I would use mine to get the canary to sing, worked every time
it’s really the simplest things in childhood that brought the most joy. I loved those little whistles and my toy flute/recorder and those little plastic jumping frogs!
I like it to have my daughter. A bird that whistles. But be careful of this, not to use always. Use or play it only once. It’s not good to your mouth.
My grandfather used to buy them for me. I had many. I now have one in an unopened package…a yellow one. I think it was a dollar and I got it at World Market a few years ago. It’s on my shelf and reminds me of him.
My grandma did a bunch of flea market and carnival sales she would set up booths i can remember her selling these birds, paper fans, and umbrella hats i wonder if anyone has done the umbrella hats on here.
anyone reminded of Ichigo’s dad from the manga “Bleach”?
They actually still sell these at a local store where I live!
