Epic Win: The Shawshank Redemption

Submitted by Brooks, in the shadow of Forrest Gump

It’s pretty hard to dislike any movie with a Morgan Freeman voiceover. He’s like the grandfather you never had. I once got in an argument with someone about who would be better as the voice of God — Morgan Freeman or Donald Sutherland. Unfortunately, I pretty much lost the argument when the other person cited Bruce Almighty.

  3. uber says:

this movie made me love mozart more

  4. Ziddleping says:

DUUUUUDE. I watched this is a class, and it’s great! Even got my mom to watch it (she wouldn’t at first because she didn’t like prison films. I got her to with “But it has a happy ending!”)

  5. Shadow says:

The movie isn’t too far off the book’s story. Here’s the thing though, did you know that this is a Stephen King book?

    • Nina says:

I know it is. It’s an awesome movie! One wall of the jail is still standing today. I heard that from my brother.

      • Anonymous says:

I think most do, I read the book, I think the movie is a rare case of an improvement on it, though it’s a short story and they have to add alot, I think they added more to the substory of the story itself.

Also, this was back in the day when movies still had content……man I miss those days /tear

  6. Bratfink says:

One of my favorite S. King novelettes, and I was sooooo thrilled when it was made into a movie.

I owned the VHS, and am now working on wearing out the DVD. Because if it can be done, I’ll do it; I watch it That.Much.

  7. Cola says:

I loved this movie watched it 7 times. Especially the ending.

  8. JayPea says:

Yeah, I watch this movie a couple of times a year. I lent it out once and never got it back, even after I asked for it. My girls, who love this movie as much as I do, went to ‘visit’ the friends who borrowed it, and there it was in their VHS collection, even though they had said it wasn’t. We got it back. That is how good a movie it is – people are willing to lie to keep it, and other people are willing to steal it back. On my all-time best 5 movies list.

    Brooks was here

  10. Candy Mountain says:

This is my all time favorite movie….
Great movie except for Boggs, he gave me the creeps. :(

  11. NoAdditives says:

Is there anyone anywhere who doesn’t watch this movie every time it’s on tv? Even if it just finished on one channel and starts immediately on another doesn’t everyone say, “Oh, but it’s The Shawshank Redemption, it’s so good!” And then we watch it again. And again. And again.

  12. XD says:

The trailer does not do the movie justice. This is my number one movie of all time. I have it on my BlackBerry and seemingly turn it on anytime I’ve got some time to kill.

  13. Captain Ned says:

Sorry. but the true voice of God is James Earl Jones. I could accept Morgan Freeman, but Donald Sutherland still has a bit too much of the slacker/stoner in his voice to ever really pull off God.

  14. Chass says:

Morgan Freeman is my TV grandpa. I’ve never had a grandpa, so I decided he’s the best thing next to the real thing. Anytime one of his movies is on, I go “My grandpa’s on TV!” which is really fun to do in front of strangers, since I’m very very white.

    • Sam says:

Of course, Morgan Freeman is now dating his (step)granddaughter, so people might give you funny looks for more than one reason.

  15. foppagal says:

This is my favorite movie of all time. I must watch it every couple of months, at least.

  16. Shaded Spriter says:

I have different seasons in a big hard cover with skelleton crew I stopped immediately after hope springs eternal because it was just the best place I could of stopped will be buying the movie again tomorrow.

  17. Orlando Rays says:

    Most. Underrated. Movie. Ever.
