Submitted by David T, wintergreen

Anyone else have the sudden urge to sing this?

Incorrect source or offensive?

» 14 Blasts From The Past

  1. P. says:

This seems to be during the Bobby McFerrin fad. Least it reminds me of some of his stuff.

    • lolMiel says:

No, Ladysmith Black Mambazo were famous in their own right. They first became really famous by being guests on Paul Simon’s Graceland album.

  2. foobarbaz says:

I used to love to sing along with these. :D It was fun to try and sing the different voices each time.

Somehow I also knew the singers were the same people who did the opening theme to “Coming to America”. Thank goodness for the modern internet where we can finally find out who it was, and even buy their songs :)

  3. Manner says:

I love love love Ladysmith Black Mambazo! I had forgotten all about this commercial!

  4. Chass says:

Damn I want some Wint-O-Green lifesavers now :(

  5. Miroku says:

I remember being reminded of The Lion King after seeing these.

  6. BRMBug says:

Venture Bros. has ruined Ladysmith Black Mambazo for me forever. I cannot read that name or see their albums without thinking of the episode which I will not name nor quote for fear of starting a dreaded quote mountain cascade. But that is one of my favorite ads from the ancient 1990’s.

  7. barboid says:

I absolutely LOVED this commercial. Liiiife Saverrrrrs, Yummmmmmmmmm! And that link to Lion King was too funny (and true!)

  8. Stephroid says:

the spearmint rings (green ones) glow for a brief moment in the dark when crushed.

  9. Casa says:

I thought the one with the falling fruit flavors were much more yuuuummmmmmmmm
    strawberry watermellon…

  10. Emmy says:

Don’t forget they also did the cream saver’s lifesavers. now that was a GREAT lifesavers commercial.

  11. Ignatz says:

The original track is on their album “Shaka Zulu”, came out in 1988 or thereabouts. Great stuff, if you’re a fan of traditional Zulu choral singing.
