Epic Win: Twin Pop Popsicles

Submitted and Written by Sarah K, who likes to share
Not much to be said, but these were central to every one of my childhood summers. Sometimes my neighbour would keep a whole one to herself, rather than breaking it in half and sharing, and I thought she was horrible for that.

Anybody see the episode of Mad Men where Peggy comes up with an ad campaign for popsicles?

I loved these so much as a kid! I used to buy them from the snack stand at the local pool during “adult swim” when I couldn’t go in the water. I always liked the weird flavors best, like bubble gum and root beer. Cherry and banana were the only fruit flavors I really liked. I never shared them
Take it,
Break it,
Share it,
Love it.
I grew up on Lake Ontario in a hundred year old house with no air conditioning (funny but I just don’t think it got as hot back then-there was always a breeze from the west and I suppose the hundred year old trees that shaded the entire house kept it cool too) I had four sisters and three brothers and we each got our own twin pop…we didn’t have to share but we swapped half if we wanted a different flavor. Remember how when you broke them they almost always had a jagged part like a bites worth that didn’t break clean? We also had fudgsicles and dreamsicles that seemed better than what you find today in stores.
Fudgesicles and Dreamsicles “back then” were so much better. I’m not sure if it’s because they really were different or if my tastebuds just changed. But it is so true what you wrote.
Mmm. . . .banana and root beer are the bestest evah!
It always bugged the crap out of me that on “That 70’s Show” Kelso was always eating “single” popsicles from the basement freezer. In the 1970’s, they only had twin pops!
In the 80’s I never shared either. Every kid who came over got their own. Banana WAS the best. Seems like no one ever wanted the orange ones.
Banana? Bubble gum…sniff you guys had cool flavours (ehrm no pun intended). We had grape, Orange, Cherry and Lime (there might have been a lemon one). The Grape was the best.
These are a fail in my book. Singles are way better because these ones never break right. Too many times, I ended up losing or barely saving a third of the popsicle.
You don’t have to give up popsicles because you’re an adult. The green ones are great for curing a hangover. The cold freezes away your hangover and makes your tummy too frozen to throw up. The sugar goes straight into your small intestine and into your bloodstream to nourish you. The water rehydrates you. Win all around.
it’s an old trick that I fully inted to pass on…. nothing like a good popsicle after a wild party…. that and a greasy pizza is the best
Awesome! Though the twin ones I would always have to split with my younger brother…
These were awesome!! Although I must say, on the rare occasion that I did get to keep one all for myself, I almost always found the second half was already melting before I’d finished the first… *sigh*
Two-can Toucan!!
these are awesome. i never shared.
These bring back memories of band camp…one of the band moms would bring these for us around lunchtime. It was great…can’t wait til next season.
i still have these today
I split my head open when i was 4 and had to get stitches. The doctor gave me a bannana popsicle as a reward for not crying (too much anyway). how every time I eat banana i remember my unfortunate incident.
Mmmmmmmmmm…..Dreamsicles….
Only weird kids liked banana. Those were gross.
/offers to trade for an Otter Pop
Oh hey! I love these!!
I still eat Twin Popsies (that’s what they’re called here) from time to time. Thing is though… we only got chocolate and orange in the Philippines. I wanna taste the other flavors o_o
Lemon and Orange are the best!
I was never able to split these up without having some fall on the floor.
Lemon and grape was the best.
OMG! I remember these! They still sell them here in the UK. I wish I had one…
i love the taste…not the texture. i dunno, someting about it. made me cringe. like cotton balls. huh.
Take It, Break It, Share It, Love It…..
The best slogan ever…!
oh and then I figured out the PERFECT way to break them….over the corner of the counter. Before that I would always break them with my hands and it would be disaster. We’d have a box of Popsicles broken in half the wrong way. No one wanted to eat those ones!
OH OH OH THEY STILL SELL THESE HERE! *faints nostalgically*
