Epic Win: Echo Microphone

Submitted by Marie P, make-believe rock star

These didn’t amplify your voice as much as they made them sound echo-y and tinny. In the days pre-dating Rock Band, these goodie bag stuffers were the best way to pretend you were a rock star.

» 27 Blasts From The Past

  1. becky says:

I had the nickelodeon version of this that had green slime at the top. Great not only for singing into, but pretending you’re a ghost!

  2. Hans says:

They still sell these. Saw them yesterday at Lakeshore Learning.

  3. Chipmunk says:

I still have mine! :rofl. It was red, and yellow. I think technically, my brother has mine.

  4. Bread says:

    Fantastic. Nothing but.

  5. Addison says:

I forgot all about these, I remember mine!

  6. Courtney says:

These things are still a dollar store classic! I didn’t have one to be honest, I was the kid who was satisfied with a hairbrush.

  7. itwasadarkandstormynight says:

My older cousins used to use theirs to scare me. They would hide behind the couch and talk to me, pretending they were ghosts. And since I couldn’t see anybody and the voices sounded so weird, as a little kid I totally believed them.

  8. ksaldria says:

I had one of these! My dad used to steal it and pretend he was God.

  9. N/A says:

My kid got one a year ago and he still plays with it almost every day. He also likes to introduce me to the crowd (our dining room can hold 20,000 invisible screaming fans) and shout out song requests for me so I play with it most days too.

  10. rickybobby says:

Too old for those, but I do remember Mr. Microphone. I sense a future win . . .

  11. Ryuuko_Koi says:

Oh man, I loved these things! I would not only sing into them and annoy the crap outta everybody, but I would lightly bonk people on the head with them. :)

  12. Some Guy says:

These actually made a great laser blast noise if you hit the bottom, from what I remember.

  13. Thrifty says:

My 2 year old has one of these from Target. She loves it! Completely perplexed my husband who had to take it apart to see how it works… dufus.

  14. Winman says:

How can it be on this site if it’s still commonly found?

  15. randerz says:

    I freaking loved that thing!

  16. Gia says:

Ah, man…I remember mine…I think it was pink and yellow. I used to annoy my mom for hours with it…

I think once she took it and threatened to melt it D:

    • Tylonfoxx says:

this very toy is a good example of the “get your kids a toy that makes noises, prepare to enter a world of suffering” rule :P

  17. sneaselcuteyahoocom says:

I remember having a pink and yellow one. Stan Helsing.

  18. Adam says:

My neice and nephew loved ‘em. It always kept them VERY entertained on road trips.
