Introduced in 1994 as “Ice by Budweiser”, it has more alcohol (5.5% ABV) than Budweiser. It is best known for an advertising campaign that involved a malevolent penguin that stalked Bud Ice drinkers and stole their beer.
Penguins really like to play beer pong. It’s a well-known fact.

the natives chanting “doobie doobie doo” made that one the best of the lot, although the Stanley Cup one was pretty funny as well.
AH! I forgot about these! Did anyone else have that hockey game you could download where that penguin was the goalkeeper and whenever you got a goal (or missed, I forget which) he would sing his “doo-be-doo-be-dooooo”?? I LOVED that game!
Yeee!!! These comercials are probably responsible for my penguin obcession….

I remember watching a NHL playoff game when the league was sponsored by Bud Ice. Pittsburgh at Florida. During stoppages in play, they would play the jingle (“Drink Bud Ice…but beware the Penguins”)…which I found especially odd considering who the visiting team was.
95 of the last 100 of these nostalgic items have been total crap. We are truly at the dregs. Time to wrap it up! There’s nothing more worthwhile to be nostalgic about in American culture.

Then we can be nostalgic about you. “Hey, you remember when bfordc used to come around and he complained that we were at the dregs?” “Yeah.” “Well he would be so laughing at this one wouldn’t he?” “Yeah.” “I wonder what he’s doing with his time now.” “Maybe we should try to find him.” “Nah, he’s probably just sitting at home watching the Disney Channel.”
Now THIS is nostalgia for me. I loved these commercials when I was a kid! I used to walk around singing “Do Be Do Be Dooooo” and one day my grandfather said, “Oh when did you become a Frank Sinatra fan?” I stared at him blankly and said “Frank Sinatra? No no….penguins! Penguins sing ‘Do Be Do Be Dooo’”. We had to compare notes….
Anyway, between these guys and Feathers McGraw from The Wrong Trousers, I’m definitely convinced that penguins are evil and plotting to take over the world. Happy Feet didn’t help with those suspicions.

BWAAHAHA!! So, I’m scrolling through all the comments, remembering how much I loved these commercials because they reminded me of Wallace and Grommit’s ‘The Wrong Trousers’ and laughing to myself because I STILL hum ‘doobie doobie dooo’ when I’m bored or trying to think of something, and I get to the bottom of the screen and there is a PENGUIN staring at me!!
It’s a little ad banner for ‘Pengy’.
