Epic Win: Charlotte’s Web
Submitted and Written by Travis S, [insert swine flu joke here]
I wasn’t sure if this submission was referring to the classic E. B. White novel or the animated musical it was adapted into. But both are wins, for sure. (We don’t talk about the 2006 live-action film.)

FIRST!
I remember i got this on VHS from McDonald’s and i would watch it all the time! I loved Templeton he ruled, and the only reason i know how to spell “terrific” is from the sheep spelling it out when all the animals where talking about words for Charlotte to put on the web
OMg, I remember getting mine from McDonald’s too! Must have been some kind of promo they were running for Thanksgiving/Christmas, because that same year we got Fievel and Fievel Goes West from McDonald’s for Christmas.
A old friend of mine had a grandmother who did the background art for this movie, and episodes for Scooby Doo. I remember he brought some in for Show and Tell way, way, waaaay back when. Like 15 years ago.
Thanks Miroku! I’m a huge Scooby Doo fan and I’ve always thought that the scenes looked amazingly like some on Scooby Doo. I even thought some of the voices in this movie were some of the same, especially of the “extra” characters on Scooby. Now I have confirmation!
R.I.P. Henry Gibson – voice of Wilbur the Pig.
Definitely one of my favorite books as a kid hands down…
I had an awesome cassette of E.B. White himself reading the story. Totally excellent.
This was my little sister’s favorite movie for YEARS. Can’t say I blame her, though, because it’s good. Loved the book too.
YES. Omg, YES, I absolutely loved this movie as a child…I read the book, once, for a school project or something but the movie was definitely a staple of my childhood. ♥
This was such an awesome story, and so good for kids.
AW! I love this movie! I had a boyfriend when I was like, four, and I remember watching this movie with him. It always reminds me of him x3
and then at the end, all of Charlotte’s babies ate her!!! At least that’s what I remember. Although I might be confusing that with a story from Blade Runner.
What? No, goodness no. Charlotte died in the fall after laying her eggs in the egg sac she carefully constructed- and her babies came out in the spring.
I remember crying at this movie! A cartoon spider made me cry! Does that make me weak?
It’s a tear-jerker movie, so you’re supposed to cry.
Take heart that you are normal.
IIRC, Bill Hanna said in his autobiography that he considered “Charlotte’s Web” his best work of his long career.
Yay, the first real book I ever read by myself. I like this movie too, Charlotte has such a sweet voice.
When they show the transition between the season, the narrator always commented on it. So when spring came he says “The snow melted and ran away.” For some reason this line ALWAYS cracks me and my sisters up. There is hardly a pause between “…melted and ran away,” that it sounds like the snow was physically running away. We pictured little snowflakes running across the hills, fleeing for their lives in fear of spring. I don’t know why. But it still makes us giggle!
I still have this on a video. It was taped off Channel 4 and I love watching the old adverts too :3
Oh man… this brings back SO many memories of my childhood. :’( I haven’t seen this movie in probably 15 years, such a classic!
This movie is just beautiful terrific and huuuumble plus WHY CHARRLOTTE WHY!
