Epic Win: Star Search

Before there was American Idol, there was Star Search, hosted by Ed McMahon. Star Search showcased us such future stars as Dave Chappelle, Norm MacDonald, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, Alanis Morissette, Tiffany, Christina Aguilera, Drew Carey, Brad Garrett, Carlos Mencia, Adam Sandler, Sharon Stone, and Rosie O’Donnell (among many others who also went on to be famous).
Just my opinion here, but I’m going to rank that list in order of talent: Dave Chappelle, Rosie O’Donnell, Destiny’s Child (Beyonce, really), Norm MacDonald, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Adam Sandler, Brad Garrett, Alanis Morisette, Drew Carey, Britney Spears, Tiffany, Sharon Stone, Carlos Mencia. Feel free to argue with that.
I always knew the rest of the day’s TV would suck once Star Search was on. Time to play outside!

I don’t know if Dave Chapelle is talented – the wildly excessive gratuitous swearing on the DVD hubby brought home drowned out anything else he might have been saying.
I think Drew Carey is terrific.
I watched Norm MacDonald on SNL for years and thought he was a real dud.
Comedians usually disappoint me too when they rely on constant swearing.
As for the SNL monotone line readers, I preferred Colin Quinn, not by much though.
If you listen to the clip, I found it funny that they are all competing for “A Million and a Half Dollars”! 1,000,000.50 Who the heck cares about that extra 50 cents?
Um, you posted this so long ago I don’t know if it’s worth pointing out, a million and a half dollars means a million dollars and a half million dollars, kinda like a long version of 1.5 million dollars. In decimal notation that would be 1,500,000.00 dollars.

Could I lean on you Leona…could I rest here for a while….Sawyer Brown was awesome! I loved them back in the day, but I rarely watched this show. I found out after the fact that Sawyer Brown was a Star Search winner….
You screwed up the ranking. It should go:
1: Drew Carey. 2: Carlos Mencia. 3: Norm MacDonald
4: A bunch of people who only have careers because Americans are insipid morons.
5: Rosie O’Donnel
