Yay! I was so excited when they started airing reruns on Comedy Central and now Reelz. Definitely underrated, it was even picked up by Fox after ABC dumped it, but it should have been around for longer. Lovitz cracks me up!
Still airs in Canada. Such a good show.
Buy my book!

you talk too much, talking cat
HAHAHAHA! Dale shoots the hand…
Funny as hell. One of the better shows to get canceled before its time. Lovitz is hysterical.
I loved this show. It’s even better now that it’s a decade and a half later and I’m old enough to get the rest of the jokes
I loved, loved, LOVED this show. It was devilishly clever and hilarious! My sister, daughter and I would gather and laugh over it. The best was Doris trying to blow a smoke bunny with her cigarettes and instead a ghoulish death figure appeared warning her “Dorrris?….TICK TOCK!”
“I do believe on THIS TV, your nose is bigger than my foot, SEE?”
I liked “The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down” better.
After it got picked up by FOX, or it might have been canceled, The Critic was a judge at the Springfield Film Festival
This is shown on Teletoon in Canada like every night but the episodes are in random order, but it is quite funny. My fave is Jay’s father, he’s just like so out of it xD
This show was awesome, I even remember the simpsons crossover where they tried to rescue it.
OMG I bought the DVD set as soon as it came out! This show was so freakin’ funny!
LOL, the one where he runs the marathon…”It’s obvious by the smell that he’s been dead for several hours.” Jay: “I’ve been pronounced dead by better coroners than you!”
the best clips imo are the ones with orson wells selling stuff like blotto brothers wind and rosebud frozen peas with frozen goodness and green peaness wait that’s terrible i quit…oh what the hell i’ll take a handful for the road yeah theres a french fry stuck in my beard
Of course, Maurice LaMarche, who did the voice of Orson Welles, went on to voice The Brain in Pinky and the Brain (an entire cartoon inspired by the famous audio of Orson Welles recording a frozen peas commercial).
My brother was an animator and art director on the critic. The show was too smart for average Americans. The Orson Welles commercials rocked, with Orson sneaking through on prime time about frozen peas: “full of green peaness.” And the Pope and Don King in The Shining maze. The complete show available on DVD.
I know that guy from the Simpsons, but I never knew he had his own show….
“Fatter than Ebert, balder than Siskel!”
It was so underrated at the time, and didn’t get the credit it deserved. It should’ve had as much run time as Simpsons or Family Guy has!
NEW EPISODES PLEASE!
That was one of my favorite shows and usually no one has heard of it! I’m glad at least here it’s getting the credit it deserves.
It’s a flaming horse’s patoot!
The Critic can be considered as one of the greatest cartoons of all time.
It is so great that Seth McFarlan had to watch it and rip off everything unique about it so he could create Family Guy.
Take that, Guerinca!! Take that, Birth of Man!
I bought the entire series on DVD and still find every episode completely charming. Did not deserve to be canceled. Can’t believe American Dad is still on and not this. Fail, Fox, epic fail.
Best. Show. EVER. I own the entire series on DVD. The best clip ever was Rosebud Frozen Peas.
“Full of country goodness and green pea-ness.”
“What’s the sulfer smell coming from the fridge. Ah smell’s like the eggs have Ripened. Wait a minute Eggs Don’t Ripen. EGGS don’t Rippen.”
“You asked to be secutary of Balloon Doggies.”
” ALL HAIL DUKE! DUKE IS LIFE! ALL HAIL DUKE! DUKE IS *pigeon flys in mouth*”
“If I were a vegetable….I’d be a carrot!”
Can’t remember what channel it would come on.
“Worlds Greatest Granny” This show IS still the funniest in my opinion! Jon Lovitz as Jay Sherman was perfectly cast.
“Oh, my shrink was right…God DOES hate me!”
-Jay Sherman
Man, I always wanted to watch this show but my parents would never let me!
