Epic Win: David Bowie
Submitted by Ray Mysterio, and the spiders from Mars
David Bowie is the only rock artist I can think of that crossed the genres of glam, art, and prog rock to soul and R&B WHILE inventing androgynous alter egos for himself (Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust) WHILE becoming a sex icon. Also, he was in
(He’s also not a half bad actor too — anyone else see him play Tesla in The Prestige?)
More Bowie after the jump.
“Space Oddity”
“Rebel Rebel”
“Ziggy Stardust”
“Dance Magice” from Labyrinth (thx Hez)
Feel free to post other classic Bowie videos in the comments. Beware of disabled embedding though!

Bowie is the greatest! Love than he turned down a knighthood because it was just a lot of bollocks!
He was almost a knight? O.o ‘Sir David Bowie’……. Heheh, it does sort of have a ring to it, but I can still see why he turned it down.
wow, thanks for posting all of these! I loooove David Bowie and really enjoyed watching all of those videos reliving just how sexy and awesome he is!
Oh I love Bowie!!! He’s the best! He’s got music for any mood you could possibly be in. Angry? listen to earthings or outside, calm listen to hours, peppy, listen to anything from the 70’s or 80’s. It could be all Bowie all the time and you’d never get bored.
Yes, I think I listen to some David Bowie album pretty much every single day of my life. I’m a little addicted : )
omg same here he is awsome!!!
I thought the casting as Nikolai Tesla was a stroke of genius, given that both of them are (were) quite eccentric.
I always liked the idea that he had to change his real name to the stage name of David Bowie so as not to be confused with another David Jones (i.e., the Monkees singer!) Quite a contrast between those two!
Actually, it’s Dance Magic (not Magic Dance) in Labyrinth
Nope, the title of the song IS Magic Dance, as listed on the Labyrinth soundtrack (track 3).
Hez is correct, I have the album too.
Jones as Bowie as Tesla ftw. Didn’t even recognize him
Prestige > The Illusionist
Agreed. I had the Prestige on my DVR for about six months, and I think I watched it three times a week while falling asleep in front of the TV. Favorite lines:
Hugh Jackman “YOU DON’T KNOW??!!”
Michael Caine “Hasn’t stopped you looking”
Michael Caine “The only way I know to do it is to use a BLOODY DOUBLE”
And Thom Yorke closes out the pic once the credits roll. Epic
David Bowie always has and always will give me the creeps, ever since I saw him playing with his balls I’ve been traumatized.
From the moment I saw him in Labyrinth when I was 11, in the theater, that was it, I was a lifelong fan. His lifestyle when I found out about it at the time was only mildly traumatizing. I still find his voice soothing.
Labyrinth
The Linguinni Incident
Zoolander
Basquiat
The Man Who Fell to Earth
The (first) Last Temptation of Christ
Ok, so Bowie had the BEST HAIR EVER in the Man Who Fell to Earth. :B
And Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, in which he plays a man who cannot sing.
He tends to do that.. He did it in “Man who fell to earth” church scene..where he is “singing” a hymn.. he did a bag up job.. on purpose..
Also the Hunger, with Susan Sarandon, a really great movie! And he’s in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, in just a small role.
Thats what I was hoping someone would mention. I mean I love Labyrinth but KNEW that was gonna get mentioned right away.
And I realized that I forgot about Gunslinger’s Revenge. And he starred in The Elephant Man on Broadway in the late 70’s or early 80’s, but I’ve never found a recording of it.
Also Absolute Beginners! That was a good one too.
Hey, it’s listed as “Magic Dance” on the Labyrinth soundtrack. And on the dvd chapter list. I think it wins out.
and he’s heterochromic.
Bowie’s importance can not be overstated.
David Bowie is the sovereign.
“Dude, the guy from Labyrinth just turned into a bird!”
Crap, you both beat me to it.
His Christmas carol with Bing Crosby:
And one month after this was wrapped up, Crosby died. Wow.
When I think of David Bowie, I think of how Vanilla Ice was trying to validate the sample from “Ice, Ice Baby” as his own. In fact, I was just reminiscing on that how Bowie’s song (Under Pressure) goes “Duh, duh, duh, duh-duh, duh-duh. Duh, duh, duh, duh-duh, duh-duh” and how Ice’s track goes “Duh, duh, duh, duh-duh, duh-duh. DUH, duh, duh, duh, duh-duh, duh-duh”. It makes me laugh at how big of a joke Vanilla Ice was. I don’t know if Ice scared me more then or now.
David Bowie and QUEEN (another Epic Win). Vanilla Ice is just a sad little talentless man…
The original and best:
To be honest Vanilla Ice did have talent, still dose actually. Unfortunately he was manipulated by people in the music industry into being the ninja rap guy. His new albums are a completely different type of music.
Anyone who has a Flight of the Conchords episode dedicated to him is a seriously epic win:
Anyone who has two televsion shows named after two of his songs (“Life On Mars” and “Ashes to Ashes”) is also an epic win.
Oh Bowie.
If there was ever an older man I’d go for it would be him.
I think I feel in love with him the most after seeing The Hunger *sigh* Best vampire EVER.
David Bowie is also in a lot of Final Fantasy games.

Zidane looks exactly like David Bowie.
Zidane is the best Final Fantasy protagonist.
Coincidence? I think not.

I love Bowie! Alas, my dog does not, he starts growling and barking whenever I try to play, well, anything Bowie.
Quite possibly my favorite Bowie song:
There’s a Starmaaaaan waiting in the sky
He’d like to come and meet us
but he’s afraid he’ll blow our miiiinds….
OMG, David Bowie, I just love that guy, because of him and Micheal Moschen in Labyrinth is started contact juggling. This is truly an epic win!
David bowie, FTW! He’s one of the few things me and my 2 sisters can actually AGREE on (!). And I think he is one of the few older men I would consider tapping. lol
You would only consiter taping that lol, think real hard about labyrinth and then say you’d only consider it haha
I never much cared for his music (don’t flame me, just not really my thing), but the man is an icon, very talented, charismatic as all hell, and a total chameleon (who else could pull off Tesla and Jareth?) Plus from everything I hear, he’s a truly decent human being. As for his lifestyle … ’scuse me, what’s the biggie? He’s been married to one of the most gorgeous women in the world for years now, and whatever they’re doing, it’s obviously working for both of them, so more power to him!
Bowie is GOD! He’s also the only man (apart from elton john and liberace) who’s permitted to sparkle.
Man Petting a Squirrel
Even now, this music is awesome. I’m only 12, and he’s my favorite artist!!
just throwing in my two cents.
david bowie = win.
pure, unadulterated win.
(*cough* also, anyone who does not find him attractive on some level is lying to themselves. he could charm 98% of humankind out of their trousers with one look. O.o )
I always assume Bowie had sex with everyone he worked with…The video with Bing worries me mightily.
“Wear the eye patch Bret! Wear the funky funky eye patch!”
David Bowie was my first crush, thanks to Labyrinth. <3
He was also in Arthur and the Invisibles and Mr. Rice's Secret, btw.
