Epic Win: Daria

Dariatitle

Submitted by Sherry, la la laaaa la la

Daria was a spin-off of MTV’s Beavis and Butthead, but an entirely different, far more relatable cartoon. Daria’s judgmental attitude seemed to click with everyone that’s ever been in high school.

(Can anyone find me a video clip that’s not dubbed over with new voices? For some reason, a lot of people on YouTube think that’s cool. It’s not.)

I just love that show. Isn’t it supposed to finally come out on DVD soon? Iremember an announcement a few months ago.

  2. Tachyon says:

    Awesome show.

  3. RayneJade says:

  4. Scott S says:

    Daaaaria.
    I won’t be soothed.
    I won’t.
    be soothed.

Introduced me to a lot of great music.

  5. Xavier says:

my goodness her sister was such an idiot. good times. i remember beavis and butthead would call her diahria.hahahah

  6. Emily says:

My FAVORITE show back in the day! Currently, I have downloaded all of the episodes (and when they come out on dvd WITH the music intact, I will buy every one of those).

I just introduced it to my man-friend and he would literally be begging me for the next episode!! Still rings true even a decade later.

    Viva la Daria!

  7. Jagger says:

    Tada. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kxhme8jc00
I just youtubed Daria and I got all kinds of original hits. What were you searching to get newly dubbed stuff?

  8. Mina says:

I still have Is It College Yet on VHS from when I recorded it in high school. My favorite show of all time. Win!

  9. catgirl says:

I loved this show when I was a teenager. I wish they still made it; it’s better than anything that MTV makes now.

    • jjmblue7 says:

It’s not hard to make a show better than anything on MTV now. “These young, wannabe actors/celebrities have older wannabe actors pick dates for them based on all sorts of stereotyped cliques of people. It’s like high school, only the drinking is legal and the sex is guaranteed not to result in a trial!”

  10. leslie says:

my fave episode was the poster competition.

  11. Rhiann says:

    I love Daria!
I can totally relate to her.

  12. Miroku says:

Loved this show, and the music at the ending was great.

My favorite episodes where the paintball episode, and the Legends of the Mall episode.

Also Sick Sad World was fun of quick win.

    • Pennyforth says:

My friends and I used to preface any discussion of “weird news” items with, “TONIGHT–on SICK SAD WORLD”.

Much love to Daria, both on its own merits and for being one of the last good things on MTV before reality TV took over. Here’s hoping the episodes make it to DVD completely intact.

  13. rickybobby says:

My favorite gag from that show was all the chicks named Tiffany.

Now, I knew a Tiffany at the time, and she talked EXACTLY like Quinn Morgendorfer, with pretty much the same level of vapidity, except she went about tree-fitty (that’s 350 lbs) and was a total bitch, too. Scary.

  14. //Ann says:

My niece was a teenager in the Days of Daria and loved her, so for Christmas, I got her the Daria video (at the time, there was only the one) and poster. I sat Christmas day watching that video and was fascinated! I loved it! She was such a delightful snot! I’ve been thinking about that recently, but couldn’t put my finger on the name, and here she is! I’m glad to hear she’ll be coming out on DVD – will want that/them!

  15. OrionRed says:

My friend at work had another couple from New York staying over at their house. The husband was some sports announcer guy, and I couldn’t have cared less. The wife was one of the voices from Daria!!! It drove me crazy because my buddy couldn’t remember which one. Since the husband was a “celebrity”, they didn’t want any visitors and such. To this day I don’t know who she was.

  16. besotted says:

My favorite was Trent, Jane’s brother. “Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Daaaaaaaaria”. I loved all his song lyrics.

  17. theblackdog says:

I just hope that it’s full seasons of Daria and not “favorite episodes” like what Mike Judge did with Beavis and Butthead.

  18. gogo says:

from the musical with their real voices

  19. Juniper Jupiter says:

Holy crap, it’s a nice surprise to see Daria on here!

    Especially SICK, SAD WORLD!!!

I just wish that was an actual show! You just know there are people that need to be on that! :D

  20. Stef says:

Can’t wait for the DVDs, it was my favorite show and favorite high school nickname.

  21. mariecat says:

lordy, i love that show! i was in high school when it came out and was pretty popular. and all through high school, i was told that i reminded people of her. the best was when these girls, who were fashion club clones, told me that, but preempted it with “i hope this doesn’t offend you.” i even dressed up as her for halloween!

  22. teezboy says:

    ahhh .. the 90´s :)

daria was indeed a great win.

  23. Eva says:

Daria is my role model. I’d give my right arm for the original series, with the right voices, the music and uncut, on DVD….

  24. FAIL-IEN says:

I loved this show. I would say she made Goth cool, long before all those puffy pant, chain-dragging posers that hang outside of Hot Topic came around. I still thought it was funny when Beavis & Butthead called her diarrhea! Oh, it echos in my head ever so loudly. “Diarrhea, cha-cha-cha. Diarrhea, cha-cha-cha.” I heard about the whole “The N” (Noggin for Teens) version. I watched it and it sucks ass! They cut out everything that made Daria a hit. I hope it comes out on DVD soon, so I can be ghetto and rent from my local Blockbuster store!

  25. Sarah says:

I was in my mid teens when “Daria” first came out – and it immediately became my favorite show.

Yeah, I’ll be buying the DVDs as soon as they come out.

  26. Ron says:

Hell yeah! I loved this show!!! Lot of stoner references on there.
Like when the family went on a nature hike and they ate magic berries.

  27. Monny says:

Win. So much win. I had such a crush on Trent

  28. meaghan7789 says:

me and my best friend were told we reminded our friend of daria and jane i had totally forgotten about this show til that comment and have been itching to watch some episodes i loved the opening song i can still hear it clearly in my head
