Epic Win: Bread and Jam for Frances

Submitted by Noelle C, badger badger badger
I think we can all relate to Bread and Jam for Frances. Lots of kids go through a phase where they only want to eat one food — grilled cheese, PBJ, chicken fingers, etc. (Personally, I was a hot dog kid.) Frances only wants to eat bread and jam, so her parents let her eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. See where this lesson is going? Bread and Jam for Frances is the only kids book I know that teaches healthy eating habits.

OMG!!! I used to love that book!!
Bread and Jam Poupon your face.
hm… I don’t remember it at all… hmmmm.
I see you’re unfamiliar with Gregory the Terrible Eater. It’s all about trying new foods – I used to love reading it to my picky little sister.
OMG!!! I loved loved loved Gregory the Terrible Eater. But I was a picky eater myself and didn’t live up to the try new things until I was middle school aged.
I was about to suggest this, but you beat me to it. *thumbs up*
I don’t remember this as well (despite having gone through a big-time bread-and-jam phase), but I do remember “Bedtime for Frances” fondly.
This one is my favorite, but Best Friends for Frances comes in second.
The comments are all over on the side with other words on top. Can the cheezburger people fix this? Also those bank ads make this site really hard to use; it stops me from loading the other related sites. Thanks!
oh my goodnesss, i love this book! my grandparents used to have a few books with these characters and i’d read them every summer. such sweet little illustrations.
I had this book on tape!! I used to love it!!
I had it on record and loved it so much I converted it to an MP3. I think the descriptions of Frances’ new lunch at the end were the early seeds of a future foodie
I’ve never read it & think i’m the first person here to only know of it as the title of a Switchblade Symphony album.
If I hear the that title the FIRST thing I think of it the Switchblade Symphony album, but, I was aware it is a book too. I’m just more of a music buff than a reading buff, so thoughts go to the music first~
BEST BOOK EVA-A-A-A-AAAS! EPIC win!!!
I ate balogne sandwiches every day for one summer. I could not eat that stuff again for years… I called it “balogne syndrome” haha! This was a great book, I wish I had heeded its call….
I read this to my daughter so many times she memorized the classic line:
“what I am
is tired of jam”
My sister’s name is Frances and most people spell it with an “i” like the boys version. This book helped her come to terms with her name when she was little. Plus she used to pray “I want hot dog, I want hot dog, I want hot dog, I want milk, I want milk, I want milk… Amen!” Yeah… she was 5…
I always wanted to find a boiled egg in a little egg-dish with salt and pepper in my lunch box after reading this. Never happened.
