Epic Win: Little Shop of Horrors

Submitted by Mario M

This ‘86 adaptation of the off-Broadway show was a musical that appealed to even people who don’t usually enjoy musicals (read: me). But that’s to be expected when the director is Frank Oz — the original voice of your favorite Muppets and your favorite Jedi Masters from the swamp planet of Dagobah.

  1. sopranomom says:

One of the best WINS of all time!

  2. Tim says:

Forgot to mention that the play was based on the 1960 Roger Corman film.

  3. Selfy says:

Hey look, it’s me! This past Spring I was Twoey.

  4. Allison says:

OMG! One of my favorite movies! I know all of the words to all of the songs!!!!
    Love it!!!!!

    “So very weeeeeeird!”

  5. Jon says:

Actually, Nicholson wasn’t the star – he was oly in two scenes. He played the masochistic dental patient (Bill Murray in the musical movie).

The original Seymour was named Jonathan Haze – pretty much a Jerry Lewis clone. Audrey was Jackie Joseph.

  6. foobarbaz says:

I still sing “I’ll be you dentist…” at least twice a year when going to the dentist.

Your temperament’s bad for priesthood…. and teaching would suit you still LESS!

  7. Blaster says:

    Blast from the ass

  8. Fluffy says:

My name is Audrey…. and because of this movie I have the nickname “Weed”

  9. skinnygenes1819 says:

    Ah, memories…… (^_^)

I was in LSoH back in high school! I made the callbacks for Ronnette in particular, but our theatre director gave the role — understandably — to one of the seniors. Man, I loved working in that show so much!! :D

    • jjmblue7 says:

My high school used to do the whole “seniors get roles” deal. Of course, that would have to change the year i was a senior, despite my hard work and putting up with the situation for 3 years. I wouldn’t have even had to act to play Roger in Grease, yet no senior males and few senior females actually got parts. I quit — understandably.

      • jjmblue7 says:

But, meh, who cares about high school anymore. Watching plays, you get most of the fun with none of the work.

  10. Meg-Meg says:

I went to see this in April this year, it was bloody brilliant!
*sings* Little shop, little shop of horrors…

  11. Kelly says:

Steve Martin was hilarious in this, I still get the “‘I’m a dentist…” song in my head from time to time.

  12. MWahatten says:

One of the best movies ever.=)

I prefer it over the original. And I never fail to look at Venus Fly Trap and think it ought to be called ‘Audrey 2′.

  13. Freerefill says:

I played half-announcer, half doo-wop girl in a school play. Easily the most embarrassing moment of my life, but unforgettable. I wish I could have been the plant, I loved this movie.

The puppeteering never fails to astound me. I can’t believe they made it look so smooth! Even with Frank Oz calling the shots, there is no other movie that I can think of that matches the flawless fluid movement of that plant. It’s simply incredible.

  14. ICanHasAnne says:

My teenage brother has been randomly spouting off “FEED me, Seymour!” and other of Audrey II’s lines (in a creditable Levi Stubbs impression) for the past four years, ever since we first watched LSoH together. This fall his high school decided they’d put it on for Halloween. I now have the happiest man-eating-space-alien-plant-thing little brother in the world.

  15. fruitzwerg says:

i went to a music secondary school and we did that as a play – i didn’t had a role in it but it still was alot of fun creating audrey. (and we also made little audrey II’s everyone could buy)

  16. Sassy says:

Every single time i go to the dentist i get that the Denist song and the image of Steve Martin with his drill in my head and it’s all i can do not to start giggling in the middle of getting my teeth cleaned

  17. WockaWocka says:

This was the best. They need more comedic musicals nowadays

  18. Lizzy says:

AHAHA! We’re doing this play at my school this year and I’m Audrey, I’m so jazzed cuz this is TOTALLY epic win! >w<

  19. Mike says:

I wonder how many people got into voraphilia because of this?

  20. wrhgiwr says:

I did this play last year for my school.
    Such an amazing experience.
I fell in love with the play, with music, and with an amazing woman.
I’ll never forget these amazing moments.
Truly deservant of an Epic Win.

  21. Liz says:

I’m putting on this musical at my high school! I’m a freshman, so I didn’t get a speaking role, but that’s okay because I get to see nearly all of the play and don’t have to memorize lines. I’ve become obsessed! The songs are all so catchy that I’ve nearly memorized each of them. “FEED ME, SEYMOUR!” :D

  22. ladycoco says:

bestest movie ever!! loved it when i was little, maybe that’s where i get my obssesion with plants from, maybe one day one of them will talk to me!!

  23. Audrey says:

I find it seriously cool that my mom named me after Audrey 2.
