Epic Win: A Goofy Movie

Submitted by Ryan B

Goofy was always my favorite of the Disney bunch. I forgot that this movie was a musical, though. Can anyone remember specific songs from it?

Incorrect source or offensive?

  1. SiriusHPfan says:

“If we listen to each others sides
For the first time ever, a heart to heart
And maybe love is the reason why
For the first time ever we’re singing it heart to heart”

OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT! lol I LOVE this movie! I am 23 years old and I still get up and dance like a loon during the scene where Max dresses up as Powerline and hi-jacks the last day of school assembly, and the last scene at the Powerline concert. And I still know all the words to “On the Open Road”, “After Today”, and “Nobody Else But You”.

    • Samantha says:

Oooh! It’s “seeing it eye to eye!” Aaaaand now that one’s stuck in my head. Yay!

      • SiriusHPfan says:

Ahh, found the lyrics! Little detailed, but:

        Yeah, Yeah)
        (Hey Yeah)
        Got myself a notion
And one I know that you’ll understand
To set the world in motion by reaching out for each other’s hand

        Maybe we’ll discover
What we should’ve known all along (Yeah)
One way or another, together’s where we both belong

        Chorus
If we listen to each other’s heart (Oh Yeah)
We’ll find we’re never too far apart
And maybe love is a reason why
For the first time ever, we’re seein’ it I-2-I

If a wall should come between us
Too high to climb, too hard to break through
I know that love’ll lead us
And find a way to bring me to you

So don’t be in a hurry
Think before you count us out (Ohh)
        You don’t have to worry
I won’t ever let you drown
        (Nothing’s gonna stop us now)

        Chorus
If we listen to each other’s heart
We’ll find we’re never too far apart (Oh Yeah)
And maybe love is a reason why (Ooo Yeah)
For the first time ever, we’re seein’ it I-2-I

Love is why we’re seein’ it I-2-I
        (Yes, we are)
        I-2-I we’re seein’ it
        (Seein’ it I-2-I)
Love is why we’re seein’ it I-2-I
        (Seein’ it I-2-I, Yeah)
        I-2-I we’re seein’ it
        (Seein’ it I-2-I)
Love is why we’re seein’ it I-2-I
        (I think we’re seein’ it I-2-I)
        I-2-I we’re seein’ it
        (I-2-I!)

If you’re ever lonely, then stop!
        You don’t have to be
After all, it’s only a beat away from you to me
(Take a look inside and see)
        (Yeah)

        Chorus x2
If we listen to each other’s heart
We’ll find we’re never too far apart
And maybe love is a reason why (Ooo)
For the first time ever, we’re seein’ it I-2-I

        Seein’ it I-2-I
        We’re seein’ it I-2-I (I-2-I), baby
        For the first time
        (We’re seein’ it I-2-I)
        For the first time
        (I-2-I)
        Seein’t it
        Seein’ it, baby
        (Seein’ it I-2-I)
        Yeah
        For the first time
        Hey yeah
        Yeah baby
        We’re seein’ it I-2-I
        (I-2-I)
        Yeah
        (Seein’ it, Seein’ it I-2-I)
        C’mon, baby

        I-2-I
        I-2-I
        I-2-I
        I-2-I
        I-2-I
        Yeah
        I-2-I
        (I-2-I!)

  2. Samantha says:

I LOVED the soundtrack for this movie. The best song was “Stand Out” at the very beginning, when Max did that concert for the student body on the last day of school and got in trouble. All the songs were awesome, but I also liked Lester’s Possum Park because it did a nice job at poking fun at some older Disney Park attractions. :-)

    • Bee-chan says:

With you on “Stand Out”! I remember when I still had the soundtrack on cassette, I rocked that and “Eye to Eye” in my car every chance I had. Have to see if I can get my hands on the cd, now, since I have the soundtrack for the 2nd movie.

I WISH Disney would get back to using some of their old original characters in full made for theater movies again. A Goofy Movie was FANTASTIC!

      ~~Bee

  3. Casey says:

I have the soundtrack for this! And the dvd. I’ve been meaning to re-watch this, but I can’t find it right now. Maybe after my move!

  4. Tylonfoxx says:

I haven’t seen the movie all the way through yet…

but it still makes me sad to see Disney abandoned oldskool animation for CGI… especially this move

    the times, the times

    • LOLDemon says:

Well, if “The Princes and the Frog” does well, I’m guessing we’ll see more hand-drawn theatrical animation from Disney again.

      • Blitz says:

I think that Disney is planning on a new “traditionally animated” movie release every 2 1/2 years…I remember that for some reason. I do hope that Princess and the Frog does well so they have an incentive to do more old-school animation (money makes the Wonderful World go round)!

  5. signs4him says:

    OMG!

I just had “Open Road” from this movie stuck in my head yesterday!

  6. Kati says:

Tevin Campbell sang one (a couple?) song(s), I think.

  7. billytheskink says:

Stand Out, fun song with one of the most baffling lines ever written.
“If the sticky wheel’s always getting the grease,
Then I’m totally devoted to disturbing the peace…”

I know way too much about this movie.

    • bri says:

i will bet you i know more….its sad. actually its not, i LOVE this movie and still watch and i’m 21. :)

      • Megan says:

I’ve been in love with this movie since it came out… I’m 22, have every song from the movie on my iPod and can recite every line word for word… yeah, say it. I had no life as a child lmao

    • Blitz says:

Lol it makes perfect sense if you want attention and grease at the same time…

  8. LOLDemon says:

This was a pleasant surprise for me: a second tier Disney filmbased on one of their TV shows of the time that actually turned out to be pretty good. A good story, appealing characters, and gennerally solid animation. I hope Disney was taking notes because I’m guessing this is a good eample of what can be accomplished with a small budget.

  9. Shar says:

Umm Powerline is still one of my favorite bands, I’m 26 and I will be playing “stand Out” and “eye 2 eye” at my wedding in May.

  10. Amy says:

Yes!!! Powerline is awesome. Stand Out is the best, though Eye to Eye and After Today are on my ipod as well : )

  11. Tetsoushima says:

I remember being kind of attracted to the girl in this movie. I have to say that my favorite character in the whole movie was the one played by Pauly Shore. He had incredible lines like, “hey, have you ever wondered why we wear gloves all the time?”

    • Decoy says:

The main thing I remember, right after this movie came out on VHS, is my sister trying to use canned cheese to make a “leaning tower of cheeez-a.”

  12. Blaster says:

    Blast from the ass

  13. Jon says:

Political Correctness: Goofy’s nemesis, “Pete” (the dad of his son’s buddy) is the old Disney character “Pegleg Pete” from the classic 1930’s cartoons. Suddenly, he has lost the pegleg, and is no longer “physically challenged”.

    • Tetsoushima says:

      Other than his obesity.

    • LOLDemon says:

Pete actually lost his peg leg well before he showed up either here or on “Goof Troop.” Apparently the animators were exaggerating it to the point where it looked distractingly painful. I wonder if it also might have put some limitations on his movement. Anyway, Pete had two legs for quite a while before this movie came out.

      • Patrick says:

Pete was often used to depict the “tough guy” or “bully” to most of the other classic Disney characters (Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, etc.). Pete had two legs when he was the Drill Sargent in two Donald Duck cartoons: Donald Gets Drafted and The Vanishing Private. For Goofy, Pete’s role had been “toned down” a bit, to become the patriarch of “The Joneses” you’d expect Goofy to want to try to keep up with, but Goofy is about as humble as they come, and accepts what he has. Sure, he’d like more, but only when it’s necessary or when he can afford it.

  14. Black Blaze says:

I have Eye to Eye and Stand Out on my iPod.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid! I wish I still had it…

  15. Nicole says:

I love this movie! Open Road is my favorite song, but the best scene is when the Bigfoot gets the Walkman and starts disco dancing!!

  16. Joanna says:

oh my god – my sisters and cousins and i quote this movie on a regular basis…. i’m pretty sure we’ll have Stand Out as a dance at one of our weddings…. it’s just classic.

  17. Steve says:

I loved this movie! Why has no one mentioned the Possum Posse Jamboree? Who’s your favorite possum?

  18. Jessica says:

I still say “Hi Dad Soup” to my Dad on the phone everytime we talk :)
Such a fun movie! Loved the 2nd one too

  19. Brit says:

“They’ve been laughin since I can remember. But they’re not gonna laugh anymore. No more Maxy the geek, no more goof of the week like before! No more Algebra tests til September. No more lookin at losers like him. No more havin to cheat, no more mystery meat. No more gym, no more gym, no more gym. Gonna move to the mall. Gonna live at the pool. Gonna talk to Roxanne and not feel like a fool. Cuz after today I’m gonna be cruisin…”

  20. AJDubyah says:

You can buy the whole soundtrack (with instrumental tracks) on iTunes.

  21. Bailey says:

this is one of my favorite movies. ever.

  22. nikki8907 says:

Oh my gosh, for me the summer of 2001 was all about A Goofy Movie! I don’t know why I got so obsessed with it after having the tape for years, but I wound up watching the movie at least once a day. I watched it so much that the tape now has a distinct humming noise in the background(thankfully I now have the DVD). I was even obsessed with Jason Marsden(Max) and watched Step by Step everyday(not an easy task, even for an 11 year old). I’m 20 now and still know every word and watch it every time it’s on Disney.

  23. Blue says:

This movie always scared me as a kid.

  24. Sam says:

i have stand out set as my ring tone!!!

  25. Jade says:

If pressed it’s very possible that I could quote this movie to you in its entirety with no help whatsoever.

    Favorite Disney film ever. :)

  26. Ashleigh says:

i still own the soundtrack from when i was younger. this is definitely my favorite disney movie hands down

  27. herr sexyhosen says:

    D:

i didn’t think it was old enough to be nostalgia worthy.

  28. Casa says:

This is one of those shows I hunted up on NetFlix, and laughed all the way through. My husband dosen’t get it… but some of these movies we watched as a kid are still EPIC!

  29. Blaster says:

    Blast form the ass

  30. Blitz says:

Loved this movie when I was younger (except for the whole possum part which kind of freaked me out). I still listen to Stand Out and I2I occasionally but most of the songs from this movie were fun, like Open Road.

If I recall right there used to be a Disney Channel series called “Goof Troop” that this movie was kind of spun-off from…the series sucked but this movie was surprisingly good.

  31. Melissa says:

I think I was like 14 when this movie was in theaters… just old enough for everyone to make fun of me for being excited about a “kid’s movie”, but it isn’t! It’s definitely a teenager movie, and even at 29, when we went to Disney World this summer, On the Open Road was our trip theme song! No, I don’t have kids.

  32. Heh. The two parts that stick most in my mind are bigfoot dancing to disco music and that part in “Nobody Else But You” where Max says “Though he seems intoxicated, he’s just highly animated”. The latter one is just such a clever use of the double meaning of “animated”.

  33. mrsbmw says:

Yeah I sing the last day of school song every year on the last day of school… too bad I’m graduating from college in December…

  34. william says:

i have this on tape somewhere, brilliant movie. used to watch it all the time when i was younger. i like goofy’s scream near the end when his car blows. *yaaaaaahahahahoooooooooooooooooeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*

  35. Dana says:

    Tevin Campbell!!!

Yes, I still have the soundtrack.
Yes, I still have the VHS tape.
Yes, the other kids in the neighborhood and I made up dance moves to the songs and had our own Powerline concert.
This movie is an epic win.

  36. Anonymous says:

oh yeah. i can probably sing it all. :)

  37. Nabexis says:

Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. I bought the sound track on iTunes. <3

"They've been laughing like that since September,
but they're not gonna laugh anymore.
    No more 'Maxie the Geek,'
no more 'Goof of the week'
    Like befoooore…"

  38. Anonymous says:

I’ve always felt this was a super under-appreciated Disney movie. It’s been one of my favorites since I was little. I’m pretty sure I could sing all the words to any of the songs. I2I will always be my favorite Disney song.
It’s super fun to watch as a teen now because I can relate to it so much more.

  39. Tonnina says:

Good-bye House! Good-bye Mail box! Good-bye Pile of broken wood! haha! I love it!

  40. aaron m says:

I always loved the movie. like the other guy was saying, I always thought this was more of the under-appreciated disney movies. Currently I hate how Disney has become, with these mellodramatic teen shows with the lamest stereotypes you can find… I can sense a lack of creativity…

  41. Richard Lang says:

This was SERIOUSLY my favorite movie back then. I can’t get over the nostalgic feeling about seeing the trailer back then. Goofy was without a doubt my favorite disney character, hell, he still is! The one thing that spooked me were those crazy possums that went on the attack. I loved this movie, the family issues, the whole Roxanne problem, everything. This was like the model life I wish I could’ve lived.

  42. Dani says:

I just HAD to comment on this one- I love this movie even though I was like, two when it first came out. xD I think I watched it during the week I was really sick last year, I’d forgotten how much I love all of Disney’s 2-D animation. :D I have I2I and Stand Out on my iPod… they’re so 90s sounding. xD

  43. Norgana says:

I am 27 and STILL sing all the songs which i STILL remember. and best of all, now my daughter sings with me!! i think my fave scene is the ‘beat it doofus!’

  44. emma_revenge says:

I’m 21 years old and i still love this movie. its movies like this that make me want to have kids even more so that i can share it with them.

  45. feath says:

my kids were little when this came out. We all loved it – personally, the dancing bigfoot was my favorite part. I fell off the couch, laughing, the first time i saw it.

  46. Tasos says:

wait… if Goffy’s got a son, that means that he is GETTING SOME!
He climbed very high on the cool-o-meter, I had for him, now.

  47. rachel says:

i remember a racoon thing. cant remember the song, but i remember racoons…….and singing….. i think the last time i saw this i was like 6…

    • Anonymous says:

Lol. It was a possum. At Lester’s Possum Park. He had a whole theme song.
      “WHO’S YOUR FAVORITE POSSUM?”
      “LESTER!”

  48. AngelMax says:

I was JUST thinking about this movie yesterday… WEIRD.

Absolutely love it. My sisters and I would watch this movie ALL THE FRICKIN’ TIME!! I think we even tried to put on our own musical because we had the soundtrack on a cassette tape… lol

  49. Katiebird1215 says:

OMG!! TOTALLY EPIC WIN! I love this movie so much, it’s always been one of my all time favorites! I recently found the soundtrack on iTunes and have been reliving my childhood ever since!

  50. LouisB says:

Fantastic underrated Disney film. So many memories…

  51. Captain Ganny says:

I’m in an Improv class and one of the first things we had to do was sing a few bars of a song, then re-do it with whatever style our teacher told us. One of the extremely masculine guys in my class sang After Today. Until that point, I’d forgotten this movie even existed, even though as a kid I adored it. I think a couple other people in my class had similar experiences, because by the second line there were like 5 of us singing along with him.
I really want to watch the movie now. Disney didn’t throw it back in to their goddamned Vault, did they?

  52. Anonymous says:

Hey, we own this on a cassete.

  53. Wentzium says:

I work at a high school. Several years ago the student government made a (pretty impressive and elaborate) music video for “After Today.” Whenever they showed the music video on school announcements *EVERY* kid in my class would sing along.

  54. AmishRobot says:

if i had to pick one thing to define my childhood of in the 90s this could defiantly represent it

  55. me says:

OMG! my childhood!! i almost burst into tears watching that trailer… this movie was the first movie i ever loved. and im totally playing powerline at my wedding!!!

  56. Amanda says:

    I named my dog P.J.

    Enough said.

  57. DizzyEmili says:

I hated that movie when I was a kid, and I still hate it today. No idea why though, lol.

  58. Patrick says:

Songs from the soundtrack (as much as I can remember), in order from the movie:

    After Today
    Stand Out
Stand Out (Reprise) – after the whole school cheers him on at the end of the day, and he rides the skateboard home
    Open Road
    Lester’s Possum Park Theme Song
    Nobody Else But You
    I 2 I

  59. Amber says:

I show this movie to my high-schoolers–it rings very true to kids who are trying to fit in. But the Sasquatch doing disco points to “Stayin’ Alive” gets me every time.

  60. rackfocus says:

I used to use a tape record to tape all of the songs. I’m sure there were soundtracks, but I lived in Saudi Arabia at the time and didn’t have any available.
