Epic Win: Thundercats

Submitted by E Bennett

A while back, there was talk about a Thundercats remake. I imagine Hollywood works something like this:

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Hollywood.

Hollywood who?

Hollywood, who likes to ruin everything you ever loved about your childhood.

Last I checked, though, the movie was halted. Thundercats seems lost on the younger generation though. Anyone else remember in Juno when she says “Thundercats are go!”? I think she meant “Thundercats ho!” or “Thunderbirds are go.”

Incorrect source or offensive?

  1. Crystal Kyuuketsuki says:

Haha I remember this being talked about, but I don’t think I ever watched it.

    Thumbs up though.

  2. Danielle says:

I always hear about the “thundercats” but we never got it where I’m from I guess

  3. Galena says:

Can someone explain the appeal of this show? I thought it was the most boring thing.

    • LOLDemon says:

Well it does boast one of the best intros of any animated TV show ever, some cool designs, and Earle Hyman, who I could listen to all day. certainly the show has become a little dated over the years, but I think it maintains a kind of innocent charm. I particularly like the “everything but the kitchen sink” mentality which allowed Third Earth to be home to robot teddy bears, unicorns, Amazon warriors, a samurai, and a mummy and his pet dog. The show had a lot of potential and I think a remake done well could be really fun.

But if it’s not your thing, that’s fine too.

      • Galena says:

Personally I think The Real Ghostbusters had a much better intro. It was just better all around. How come no one else talks about that show? :( I loved it so much <3

        • Rox says:

Oh, I agree…Real Ghostbusters should be on here, too…Watched it a lot. It was great, until it was ruined because obviously the studios couldn’t handle a girl like Janine, and they completely messed up her character. I was always an Egon Spengler fangirl and Egon/Janine-shipper, too! ^_^

    • rickybobby says:

      Cheetara’s huge rack

    • chibidraco says:

Well, for me the appeal was that I was 1.) a geek and 2.) a tomboy and this show hit both my demographics. As a seven year old girl it was kind of cool to be into Thundercats. If you liked GI Joe you were too much of a tomboy and got accused of being gay. If you liked stuff with sci-fi overtones but owned up to being a Trekkie you were basically asking to get your butt kicked and your lunch money stolen. Thundercats was kind of a happy medium…and it was all I was left with when they took Voltron off the air. ;)
Thundercats also taught me that when you’re doing anything difficult your speech. must. be overrun…by. excess….punctuation. Ehn!

    • Meowth says:

I didn’t get to see this show until they put it on Cartoon Network a couple of years ago, and I wish they hadn’t taken it off again. It was awesome! All the main characters were anthropomorphic cats like me!

  4. thunderkittie says:

    OMG I loved this show!

  5. Max says:

    SNARF SNARF!

  6. mitzoe says:

I wanted Snarf to die painful flaming death, but otherwise loved this show. At first I lusted for Kit, but then I grew and lusted for Cheetara. Sigh.

  7. Casa says:

    Look mommy! Furries!!!

  8. leslie says:

if the remake was anything like this fan made trailer it be awesome win.

  9. argentlupus says:

    One thing must be said.

“And Keep your foot of that blasted samophlange!!!!”

  10. Corliss says:

I was obsesed with this show. To the point that I bought every toy, playset, and anything Thundercats I could find. I -still- have all of it packed in my basement..but..wow it was scary.
I think this show rocked so much because the voice talents were amazing, the animation in most episodes was fantastic. And it had more plot then JEM at least…Gah I still <3 It.
    And yes, Cheetara is hawt.

  11. littlenatt says:

awesome. not sure i want them to do a movie though. and juno was being ironic. which if you didnt get, i’m guessing you didnt get a lot of the movie. lol :)

  12. Fuzzalina says:

Robot Chicken does a lot of homages to Thundercats. They have had several skits about them. Here’s a couple:

I wish I could find the one where Liono is adopted by a little girl and she trains him with spray bottles.

The Chicken is a beautiful thing.

  13. Catbunny says:

    <3 Thundercats when I was a kid.
Watched 'em on Cartoon Network as an adult. Oh, the PAIN!
    *Thumbs up anyway*

Oh, and remember, Cheetara is a Gateway Furry.
    XD

  14. utaduta says:

i friggin loved thundercats! my sister and i were tomboys, so we had all the toys and stuff. i would love a movie , i was so excited when trasformers and GI joe came out.

  15. amethyst says:

Never actually watched the show, but had enough friends who did. The guys I hung out with in elementary school and I would create our own scenarios while running around at recess and after school. Thundercats, Voltron, Transformers, Go-Bots, and Masters of the Universe– it didn’t matter which. I was the only girl in the group, but it was fun.

  16. Rox says:

Thundercats was full of epic winnage…I watched it a lot but after so long, couldn’t remember anything specific about it…There were a few episodes on Cartoon Network (I think) and yes, it’s dated, but it was really packed with awesome artwork!

  17. Obi-Watt Kenobi says:

    I lurvs dems Thundercats!

  18. wombot says:

100% pure squeezed awesomeness. Not from concentrate.

  19. wolfmane says:

I loved that show when I was about nine. I used to spend hours on the playground pretending I was my own Thundercat, and the strange concrete tunnel they had there was my home base where all my electronics were.

I tried to watch it again a while back, and it was painful, but I still have great memories.

I wonder why I can’t watch it now?

  20. Hime Takamura says:

    THUNDERCATS, HOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Alexdarkangel says:

The show itself was always cool, but the outtakes were friggin hilarious beacuase of just how much profanity the voice actors used when they goofed up. Some f the outtakes were featured when the guy who voiced Lion-O was interviewed for a radio broadcast.

  22. l-carnitine says:

During my childhood, I used to watch Thundercats cartoons. At that time it was my one the favorite cartoon show.

  23. JillS says:

It was my favorite as well. I WAS a Thundercat…I had the official Thundercat ring from Burger King that I wore everywhere.

  24. Alistaro says:

People who has their childhood ruined by a remake or something did not have a very strong connection to the thing they claim to love so much.

That said I never did enjoy Thundercats all that much. To many cartoons as a child to watch all of them.
