Epic Win: Brak’s Tales of Suspense

Submitted by Faith M

From Space Ghost Coast to Coast — one of the original programs from Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim — Brak’s appearance would eventually lead to the creation of his own show called, uh, The Brak Show. Though it was good, it would never top Brak’s talk show appearances.

Is Brak supposed to be a cat of some sort?

Correction: This sketch is from Cartoon Planet, which spawned spin-off Coast to Coast. Thx Petey Rave.

Incorrect source or offensive?

  1. Petey Rave says:

Not to be a nitpicker, but that sketch is from SGC2C’s sister show Cartoon Planet. Which had all kinds of sketches and skits like these.

  2. argentlupus says:

Could we just drop the Tales of Suspense and just say Brak in and of himself is the Blast from the Past.

  3. foobarbaz says:

    Baby got Brak!

  4. zdanio says:

Can’t say why, but brak used to terrify me when I was little. I didn’t panic or anything, but he sure gave me the creeps, and I’d have nightmares some nights where all I could see was his face… lol

  5. Lady Heather says:

I love Brak! Tales of Suspense and Skool Daze were my favorites. Also, Nugget of Joy from Zorak, but that’s something else. Good times…

  6. Sprite101 says:

Correction of Correction: Space Ghost: Coast to Coast was a spin off of Cartoon Planet.

    • KobaKato says:

      Exactly,

Run of “Space Ghost: Coast to Coast”: April 15, 1994 – April 12, 2004

      Run of “Cartoon Planet”: 1995 – 1999

It was surprisingly easy to find this out.

      • MarillTachiquin says:

Coast to Coast lasted 10 years!!!!??? Wow! Too bad it stopped being aired here in Mexico way before =/

  7. Miroku says:

Adult Swim? SGC2C/Cartoon Planet predate Adult Swim by like 6 years. They just moved it to Adult Swim once it started.

  8. Jason says:

Correction: Cartoon Planet was a spin-off of SGC2C. SGC2C was out for at least a year before CP.

  9. Jade says:

omg YES! I still have a ton of Brak files on my ipod :)

  10. fish eye no miko says:

    o/~ “I’m green, I’m olive, I’m chartreuse
I’d love to stay one color. but what’s the use?” o/~

  11. toribug11 says:

  12. ohiokimono says:

  13. D.R. says:

“Hi, my name is Brak!” :)

  14. Kscore says:

I cant beilieve people remember this. I freaking adored brak. <3

I especially loved the poems he wrote… and his dreams of earth

"HEY!!! Whats that on your face there, Chester?!?!? WIPE IT OFF!!! YOURE MAKIN ME SICK……. WIPE IT OFF!!!"

  15. Gustav says:

Are these channels (or shows) old enough to be considered “Nostalgic Win”?

  16. whatwhat says:

A friend of mine was in an accident in Japan (her bike was hit. Which is an everyday occurrence in Japan, generally, but she was pretty banged up). She woke up in hospital, disoriented, and couldn’t figure out why the nurses were staring at her. Her face was all right – no major injuries; no blood everywhere, nothing she could see. Maybe, she figured, it was simply because she was foreign.

When they told her a few hours later she could leave (accompanied, for she’d had a concussion), and she got out of bed to get dressed, she realised that she was wearing her Brak T-shirt, and the way she was lying in the bed with the blankets pulled up, all that could be seen were Brak’s beady eyes peering over the top of the blankets. Very disconcerting for the poor Japanese nurses (who are all darlings that look about twelve years old, and who wear Hello Kitty nursing shoes).

    Brak rules :D

  17. mew2 says:

So…does anybody remember these characters from their ORIGINAL venue (Space Ghost and Dino Boy), or am I the only one? Don’t think they ever told what exactly Brak was other than an alien–like you’d need to have THAT pointed out.

    • MarillTachiquin says:

I do! I remember the twin brothers and their monkey with generic voice xD

And Dino Boy was fun too, although it was weird for me to see a dinosaur with a collar xP

    • MWahatten says:

I do! And gawd did I hate the venues they’re known for now….

      Boohiss SGCTC and TBS:P

Not that it was great ever to start with.

    • SoV says:

Yeah, I know I’m old when parodies of cartoons that I loved as a child are considered an epic nostalgic win. Space Ghost (the non-ironic version I watched on Saturday mornings circa 1979) was one of my faves.

  18. MarillTachiquin says:

Brak was my favorite character from Cartoon Planet show!!! I still remember the songs (in Spanish, of course =P)

I still have a fan art I made of Brak eating a burger xD

  19. Rachel says:

My parents used to watch SGCTC when I was a youngin. It’s one of my first memories of television…I love Brak =D

  20. Jenna says:

God I miss that show. Stayed up til 4am to watch it.

  21. Anonymous says:

I dunno…one day I just woke up dumb as a doornail!

    I love beans
    WOO WOO WOO
    I love beans
    How ’bout you?
High in fibre, low in fat,
HEY I BETCHA DIDN’T KNOW THAT!

  22. Poodlehead says:

Cartoon Planet FTW. Got my mother to watch it too and we still sing the potato song, “Don’t Touch Me,” and the one wherein the only lyric is a repeated, “I’m drivin’ down highway 40 in my great big pick-up truck.”

Also, “How to speak Italian” and Brak’s School Daze.

  23. disques dur says:

LOL, I love Brak. I looked and saw there were about 8 seconds left and wondered how he could finish the story… but of course he can do things like that.

  24. supercollider73 says:

CP and SGC2C were very cool for the day. Um, I think most of these people are now working on Aqua Teen Hunger Force which is a personal favorite. hehe
