Epic Win: Final Fantasy Victory Fanfare

Submitted by Kevin N

For anyone who’s ever played a Final Fantasy title, this epic nerd win signaled that you were about to get some free potions, gil, and if you were lucky, a phoenix down. Behold! The best cockatiel ever:

Updated: Featured Comments

WMDKitty sez:

Oh, god, YES!

Anyone else hear this in their head after completing a difficult task?

Lucy replied:

I sing it out loud.

Anonymous Coward replied:

I have it hooked up to hot-keys

F7=FF7
F8=FF8
F12=FF12

Anonymous Coward, you are unbelievably nerdy — I salute you!

  1. Novawolf says:

Never got to play FF, but the jingles ring clear in my head XD

  2. argentlupus says:

Do I even need to say anything about how satisfying that sound is after a long difficult boss battle?

  3. GinnyLyn says:

    First off, awesome bird!

Secondly, I’ve played just about all of them, and this just helped me realize how the theme was modified slightly to reflect the mood and style of whichever game it was. Most significantly 9 with its fairy tale like theme and 12 with its war like theme. *shivers at the X-2 version* X-2 is why we DO NOT do sequels. >_>

    • jjmblue7 says:

But IX is awesome. My favorite one. ^.^ X’s okay, and VII’s overrated. But IV, VI, and VIII are great too!

  4. Chass says:

    That cockatiel is part chocobo!

  5. lolMiel says:

What? XI isn’t in here? Come on, it’s like 3 seconds long. :<

  6. Mizz Kitteh says:

    I love cockatiels. Bird=WIN!

  7. Scieran says:

That bird deserves more props than the other video.

  8. Anonymous says:

I need to teach our cockatiel to do that.

  9. WMDKitty says:

    Oh, god, YES!

Anyone else hear this in their head after completing a difficult task?

  10. WMDKitty says:

And who the hell gave this a “thumbs down”?

  11. Andi says:

LOL, you can tell the owner played this game often!!

    Ahhhh…many an hour I spent playing FF 8. I miss that game…

  12. FwaFwa says:

VIDEOGAMES LIVE: Featuring: Blindfolded dude playing the entire freaking thing on a piano.

    That is all.

  13. CPTNHotSauce says:

Taking inspiration from advent children, V’s Fanfare is my ringtone

  14. B16A says:

I think the only Final Fantasy I actually played was VI but boy is the fanfare a clear memory. Love it. Only other one I remember as clearly is Chrono Trigger’s Fanfare which was dangerously close to being a Final Fantasy.

    • whatwhat says:

Though the Chrono games were done by a specific theme there’s a lot of FF crossover in some of the designs and music :)

  15. D.R. says:

    That bird rules. :)

  16. igetstabby says:

I know of at least 77 downward thumbs that need to be broken

  17. Lisa says:

Must. Use. Cockatiel. To. Breed. Gold. Chocobo. To. Get. Knights of the Round. *falls over*

    • whatwhat says:

It always made me so darned happy to release KOTR. I will say, however, that my favourite summon of all time will always be Shiva, in her various incarnations.

I wasn’t thrilled with the summons in FFXII – I never could keep them alive in battle–probably because I wasn’t concentrating on the real-time fight, but trying to get a look at the summon creature–and I just quit using them after a while. In any case, my Basch usually ended up killing everything dead before I managed to catch up to him (except, of course, in the boss fights).

      • Lisa says:

There is nothing quite like the joy of having your entire party equipped with a Mime apiece, then one party member also with a mastered KOTR equipped with W-Summon – which lets you cast any summon twice. With this setup, each party member mimes the double-cast of Knights of the Round on down the line – and at no extra MP cost. Sephiroth goes down like a cardboard cutout in front of this onslaught. Ah, good times. Materia: making characters like Cait Sith be just as useful as characters like Cloud in final boss battles since ‘95.

      • jjmblue7 says:

I’ve always like Leviathan best, when he was available. Although Shiva is pretty win too.

  18. SonicGTR says:

    Awesome. Thumbs up for me.

FF8 was truly the worst Final Fantasy game, though. Even it’s victory fanfare sucked.

  19. jcb says:

This is my sound whenever I get a text message. If I get one in a public place usually at least one person smiles.

  20. CandleJack says:

I find it interesting to note how, while each theme gets progressively more complicated, they also gets progressively not-as-good.

  21. Rox says:

Final Fantasy is 200% epic win. I kinda thought X-2 was cute, but I’m a chick…go figure.

My least favorite FF was VIII. Rinoa: “OMG, Squall wat’rewegonnadogigglesqualyay!” *eyeroll*

But like I said, doesn’t stop the FF winnage.

Tifa’s cell phone in the Advent Children movie is also the victory fanfare! ;o)

  22. Tyche says:

Final Fantasy rpgs are the only console games I ever play. The one exception is Star Ocean (which I never finished). I love them. Even X-2 (except for Yunapalooza…). That one was literally like playing with dolls. One thing I love and also hate about the more recent ones is the utterly ridiculous outfits the characters wear. Let’s see, all the girls are basically dressed like streetwalkers and the guys usually have bizarre asymetrical weirdness going on. Amusing and cringe worthy at the same time.

Could these be the only console games with soundtracks you can buy? And also super cool rock tribute versions of the various themes (Black Mages)?

  23. clavier says:

I love all the series of Final Fantasy but i didn’t seen the Final Fantasy 7, i have seen upto FF5. I hope FF7 is also an awesome movie like previous FF movies..

  24. Zera says:

Ah, hell yes! This, and the chocobo themes were the best parts of the series!

  25. Alistaro says:

I always here this tune playing in my head with anything that wins because its so ingrained in my life. I hear it alot because I actually dont dislike a whole lot of things, I am just easy to please like that.

  26. Ninty-Fresh says:

Just like Dr. Mario, this was given lyrics:

    You just got pwned, F-T-W!
Now you’re dead, you’re dead ’cause we killed you, we took you by surprise!
    (Hm? BOO! AGH!)

    SEE THE REST YOURSELF!!
