Submitted and Written by Emily A

The other day one of my best friends reminded me of something I had totally forgotten from my youth: Mickey’s Parade Ice Pops, popsicles in the shapes of your favorite Disney character. Whatever happened to these?

These were great. Another epic win from the ice cream truck: Mickey’s Parade Mickey Mouse Bars!

Come to think of it, they don’t really resemble Mickey all that much, eh?

» 39 Blasts From The Past

  1. D.R. says:

I don’t think I had the fruit pops. I did love the ice cream bars, though. :)

  2. Holly says:

You can get the Mickey Pops at Disney World :-)

    • Elyse says:

I could have sworn the ones at Disney World were all covered in chocolate, not just the ears?

      • catgirl says:

The ones I remember getting there were just like the one in the picture. They probably had a wide variety though, so there might have been some that would be completely chocolate covered.

    • billy b. says:

the ice cream man that goes past my high school still sells the ones in the shape of mickey’s head. (: i mooch off of my friend since i’m broke, but they aren’t bad… :p

  3. christi says:

i remember the fruit pops. my mom almost never bought them for me because i wouldn’t eat the orange ones. i only got to have them on special occasions or at other kids’ houses. i used to love biting off mickey’s ears.

  4. Sarah says:

I remember getting them at Disney World. My favorite was the Spongebob ones from the ice cream man with gum for eyeballs (ok, this wasn’t that long ago)

    • catgirl says:

Long before Spongebob even existed, they had Power Rangers pops with gum eyeballs. I hate the Power Rangers, but I would buy the popsicles anyway, just for the gum. I and all my friends would do anything to get gum when we were kids.

  5. VegasAmy says:

We had these available at lunch at our junior high…the ice cream ones. That was the early 80s and that was the only place I ever saw/had one.

  6. cowtools says:

The fruit shaped like Mickey looked like something entire different when you’d slurped up about half of it. Let’s just say it’d make some people think twice about continuing to slurp…

  7. Haley says:

Donald was the only reason that I ever ate grape popsicles.

  8. LilithDrasier says:

I used to stand in the middle of the grocery store and fight with my dad to buy me some of the Mickey ones. Or beg him to give me money when the ice cream man came by. I also remember the Tweety Bird ones with the gum balls for eyes.

Ahh those were the days, when no one thought you were a dork for running after the ice cream truck, and eating the head of your favorite cartoon characters WASN’T a disturbing thought.

  9. hhead says:

i don’t remember the fruit pops, but i do remember the mickey mouse bars! my dad worked at a commercial dairy and they distributed the mickey mouse bars and he would bring boxes of them home. good times, good times.

  10. boaks says:

Those fruit pops may have been my favorite treat as a child. I completely forgot about them until I opened this page! I felt like I was 5 again…

  11. Meowth says:

I had always wanted those popsicles, but my parents never bought them for me… I wonder if they still make them?

  12. Chloe says:

I remember these! I can even remember their exact flavors! So awesome :D

  13. Mandy says:

I only liked the lime Mickey fruit pops. Those were hard to find.

  14. courtney says:

    yummy! I loved these!

  15. Mia says:

Wow. Total blast from my past right here. When I was little, I was sick a lot, and popsicles were one of the few things I managed to keep down. My parents bought these because they thought Mickey would cheer me up.

  16. Grimalken says:

Holy crap, I had forgotten all about the fruit popsicles. Thank you.

  17. chocobo says:

I thought I had been hallucinating this whole time! I swore these existed in the early 90s, and were never to been seen again! huzzah!

  18. Zobe says:

Mickey mouse icecream bars and Bubble O’ Bill’s pretty much sum all I ate as a child :)

  19. Diana says:

Man I remember these! They were the best! I grew up in Houston, Texas and when the Ice Cream man would come we would flip! They were .50 cents I think and I ALWAYS got the purple one!

  20. Nicole says:

    OMG…GREATEST…THINGS…EVER!!!

  21. boop says:

These were the best at slumber parties. I remember you were a nobody if you didn’t have these at your summer/slumber parties! Gotta beat that Texas heat somehow!

  22. Platina says:

Ah!! I almost forgot about those fruit pops! Those were my absolute favorite treat as a kid, especially since I was a Disney fanatic!! I miss eating them! :(

  23. Laura says:

I remember eating the ice pops, not the ice cream ones. Gosh, I completely forgot about those things. Thanks for much for bringing back that memory for me. Donald (grape) was my favorite. Most of it ended up on my face though and not so much in the belly.

  24. kat says:

I remember the fruit pops distinctly, because they gave them to me in the hospital when I got my tonsils out! I was 5 years old, and that was 1992. Wow.

  25. redwolfie says:

I have such fond memories of these when I was a child- you have no idea!

  26. Stormy says:

Those things were so good. And they still have similar ones in disney world.

  27. Seatun says:

Our school use to sell the Mickey Mouse Bars at lunch, If you bought one you always had at least five or six people hit you up for the ears. . . “Yo, let me get your ears”, no , “then at least give me one ear”, NO get your own!! . . . memories

  28. Allison says:

I remember the Goofy BANANA cream flavored ones…OMG those were amazing

  29. Lauren says:

Not even 5 years ago, I was in Ottawa with some friends, and we found a street vendor that was selling these! They were great!

  30. Bill says:

I can remember working graveyard shift at a convenience store 2 miles from the entrance to Disney World in Kissimee when a lady and her 4 kids, obviously on their way home (or to their hotel) from Disney stumble in exhausted. The kids are cranky so she gets everyone a Mickey Mouse ice cream bar. I ring up the sale tll her it’s $2.50. She looks at me, blinks and asks, “Are you sure that’s right?” I reply, “Yes mamn, 5 ice creams at 50 cents each, that’s $2.50.” Suddenly she looks angry, “I’ve been paying $2 a piece for them all day at Disney!” I smile and tell her, “We can’t get away with that pricing. We don’t have a 6ft tall rat running around here.” Incidently, at 50 cents a piece they were twice the price of stores not located near Disney.

  31. SiriusHPfan says:

I totally forgot all about these until just now. My Mom used to buy the fruit flavored kind ALL the time. Whatever happened to these things?? They were amazing!

Another Disney related food I miss is Donald Duck Lemonade. What happened to that? It was way better than the crap they pass for lemonade these days!

  32. Angela says:

I actually WROTE to the makers and sadly, the era of my favorite popsicle is over…

    Here’s the response I got:
    “Hello Angela,

Thank you very much for contacting us. We regret to inform you that the product you have contacted us about has been discontinued.

Our company’s goal is to provide consumers with a variety of products to meet their needs and preferences. As you know, marketing is a complex function, and many business factors are taken into consideration before discontinuing a product. Before a product becomes available at the retail level, much time and expense is involved in perfecting the formulation, consumer focus testing, and marketing support. It truly saddens us when we must discontinue a product.

However, consumer demand is a major factor. When the level of demand is insufficient to ensure that consumers receive high quality products at an affordable price, the product may be discontinued. We appreciate your loyalty to the product. Please understand that we would rather not disappoint any of our consumers.

    Kind regards,
    Your friends at Good Popsicle”

  34. Kerri says:

Ahh! I was just looking for a picture of these and came across the site. I swear they just disappeared off the face of the earth, actually.. it’s just how I knew I was getting old. My parents would by these all of the time, and I remember Daisy Duck being in the mix!.. anyhoot, I went to the store and was trying to find them; realizing it had been like 10 years since I had one.. Very sad story.. come back parade popss!!
