Epic Win: Brain On Drugs PSA
Submitted by S Porterfield
Totally iconic. This was the best thing Rachel Leigh Cook ever did. I mean, except for She’s All That. Just kidding. That movie sucked.
And here’s a pretty good parody from Robot Chicken:
In Cook’s defense, she’s the voice in the Robot Chicken sketch too.
Updated
Thanks to commenters RoverDaddy and Stick for pointing out that the PSA with Rachel Leigh Cook is a remake of one from the late ’80s. Can someone find me a video of it?
Updated Again
Commenter win. Thanks to snafu and feckless for finding the original ’80s “Brain on Drugs” spots, which you can see after the jump.
Is it just me or do these ads just make you hungry? Like, I really want some eggs now.

Robot Chicken is an Epic WIN!!!
yes yes it is. thats by far my FAVE robot chicken episode too XD
mine too XD
I’m kind of amused that the epic win in this case is a remake of ANOTHER epic win from ten years earlier.
My thoughts exactly. The original “classic” brain on drugs PSA is from 1987. This one with Rachael Leigh Cook is from 1998.
yes. here’s the original (i think):
Both versions are a nostalgic win, but I really do hat anti-drug PSAs. They don’t offer any real education besides “Don’t Do It”. It really hurts the kids. (DARE too.)
yea.. neither of those are the original… how old are the people that run this show :p
Is this the original? It seems rather short.
That’s the one I remember. Short and to the point, unlike most of the anti-drug PSAs nowadays…
Yep, that’s the one I remember. No people, just a fairly deep-voiced male voice-over. That’s the ORIGINAL original. Notice how the one above with the guy says “is there anyone out there who STILL isn’t clear…” which is your clue that there’s a predecessor. And Rachel Leigh Cook’s version, well, 1998 is well past the realm of childhood nostalgia for me, but I suppose Once Upon A Win has some younger readers too.
i like my brain with a little hotsauce and a piece of toast
OK. Now I want eggs!
Drugs are bad.
Unless they’re sold at your local supermarket, then they’re fine.
I too remember that short one with just the frying pan…i wouldn’t say that those PSA’s were effective in making me think drugs were horrible, but they DO stand out in my memory and they made and impression. Same with the “The More You Know” line of commercials…they never impacted me, but for some reason I have always remembered them.
Canada’s CCA commercials were scarier
How could anybody have not remembered that the one with Rachel Leigh Cook was an update of the earlier PSA? I was born in ‘85, and I remember it distinctly. And the whole reason the later one works (to the extent that PSA’s can ever be said to work) is that the one from the eighties was still in our collective consciousness, so that we expected the more tame statement that it had delivered.
I love how right at the end of the robot chicken vid, there is a teletubby smoking a joint
This is your brain.
This is your brain on drugs.
This is your brain on drugs with a side of bacon and hash browns….
Man I have the munchies…..
ANY QUESTIONS!!!!!??? ANY???!!!!!!
does this make anyone else hungry? why didnt they just use a blender or something less appetizing? i was thinking mmm i want to eat my brain. thats not natural!!
MORE BRAINZZZZZ UNNNNNNNGGG
I’ve seen some talk as to which version is more nostalgic and full of win, but for my money, I’d have to go with the 1998 version, simply because it allows me to look at Rachael Leigh Cook in a tank top. Anyone else in agreement?
I seem to recall an episode of Roseanne where she smashed the egg with the frying pan to demonstrate someone’s brain on drugs. I believe it was the one where they found some pot in David’s pants, and it may have been their old stash.
These are great, but don’t forget the “I learned it by watching you!” anti-drug commercial
There are 2 things that I got out of this PSA. 1) That there are people who do drugs and 2) there are people who have watched this commercial, got depressed from realizing that they’re out of eggs and are NOW on drugs.
The remake is actually pretty pathetic and that is some BAD acting (in its original sense).
The one from the 80’s is quite good, though. Dry, free of drama and it gets to the point.
Amiable locale provide for up your passable work.
Through you looking for details. It helped me in my mission
