Folgers Instant Coffee isn’t the tastiest stuff around (gets the job done, though), but this commercial jingle is pure gold. Warning: playing the above YouTube clip will get the phrase “the best part of waking up” stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

Thanks to Karl for the Folgers Decaffeinated ad, which is similar to the original but features male vocals behind the jingle. I’m not sure what it’s implying — guys can’t handle their caffeine?
And props to BB/VA for finding the Rockapella version of the Folgers ad. Rockapella, as SchlagerFuchs pointed out, were best known for the Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? theme song.

This was great. I remember putting the record (5.25″ square!) they had in a Sunday newspaper on my turntable (not the good one, the parents had that), to see if I’d won. Alas, I hadn’t.
Folger’s commercials – I prefer the Rockapella version. Awesome!

I loved ROCKAPELLA! And Lynn Thigpen! Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego rocked my world so much that I bought the SEGA game. [SPOILER ALERT] I finally get to the end where I have the chance to catch Carmen Sandiego (after spending a couple hours on it) and catch her–and nothing special happens. It was the most anti-climactic, disappointing ending ever. Boo.

The Christmas Folgers commercial is the best one! The one with the college student son coming home. That is the best and my favorite Christmas commercial!

My mom would cry at those all the time. The two older men reconnecting after all those years…would just get her every time. I’d laugh at her…until one time she caught me crying too!
I saw it at Christmas time last year so apparently the Folgers people know that if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! =) I never cried (though it always gave me a warm fuzzy) until last year. Good grief. Maybe because now I identify with not the little girl (who was a little younger than myself when the commercial came out) but the mom? Gah…

Jesus, I had no recollection of how damn melodramatic these commercials were. Did you see the over-acted facial expressions on the girl in the first video? She looked like she’d just seen the face of The Lord.
um, this commercial isn’t for Folger’s “instant” coffee … it’s for Folger’s regular ‘ol red-can coffee. Just fyi.
