Epic Win: Robocop

Robocop is arguably the most badass cyborg of all time; he had no qualms about blowing up as much stuff as possible, all in the name of the law. The movie was so over-the-top violent that it originally earned an X rating and had to be re-edited eleven times to bring it down to an R.

Hmmm… Epic soundtrack too.
“YOU’RE FIRED!”
-”Thank you, sir.”
But why does this trailer have the Terminator soundtrack playing in the background?
They still recycle trailer music today, but seemed to do it much more in the 80’s.
I was about to make the same comment about the music recycling. One thing I’ve also noticed is use of popular songs in adds nowadays, like NIN’s “the day the whole world went away” in the commercial for the terminator movie that came out … this year? i cant remeber. hehe…
Great movie, although a little bit dated today. But ONLY BECAUSE the world we live in is waaaaaay crazier, than every commercial that was featured in the movie! It’s still a great and highly watchable movie, that is so much better than it could have been, but the satire seems a little bit tame in 2009. (It’s still funny as hell.
)
Emil’s demise FTW!
***shudders***
To this day I still cover my face for that part. The sounds he made gave me nightmares as a kid…
I was working for a defense contractor when this came out – the first ED9000 boardroom scene reminded me of one of their more spectacular (but not so deadly) demonstration fails!
My Grandpa worked for a weapons company that produced tanks in WW2. One of their prototypes blew up and killed two people, and severely injured another.
The guy who gets killed in that scene’s name is Kenny…
I’d buy that for a dollar!
Damn, I came in here to say that. :p
haha, great minds think alike
ED209…still scary as hell. “You have 10 seconds to comply…”
A holster built into his leg! Who comes up with great stuff like that?!?
“Put down your weapon, or there will be, . . . trouble!”
Is this on Blu-ray yet?
One of the best Sci-Fi movies ever. Portrayed perfectly by Peter Weller. Also, can’t remember the actors name, but Red from That ’70’s Show is one of the better villians also.
Great flick.
Kurtwood Smith.
Paul Verhoeven was great for that – taking “nice guy” actors and putting them into villain roles. Kind of like Roy Brocksmith the children’s actor as the Rekall scientist in Total Recall.
Kurtwood Smith was his name.
Paul Verhoeven was great for that, taking “nice guy” actors and making them villains. He did that in Total Recall making Roy Brocksmith (a children’s show actor if I recall) and making him a badass doctor who tries to give Arnie the lobotomy pill.
Same story for the actor that played Emil. Before this, he was best known for being the sensitive gay kid in the movie “Fame”. Next thing you know, he’s shooting people for fun.
“Can you fly, Bobby?”
Oh god, I just had a horrific thought. This was a great movie. Hollywood has no original idea’s anymore, so they are on a remake spree. Remakes totally suck. Especially when they decide to make them 99.9% CG. They will remake RoboCop, make it 99.99% CG, and it will suck. It will ruin everyone’s happy memories. Don’t let it happen!
Yeah, Robocop! Can’t imagine anything like this coming out of Detroit anytime soon, though.
Hell now I want to get my greasy mitts on a copy of the original before the edits to get a better rating.
LOL Robocop. We were too young to watch it but my dad bought it for us anyway. My little brother’s watching a guy snort coke with a whore, just before Robocop kills him. Yikes!
There was a video store in my town and Robocop was there to take pics with kids. The suit looked just like from the movie, not a cheesy replica. But the asshole in the suit was shaking hands with kids and freakin crushing our hands. Like when he squeezed the guy’s hand in the movie? He did that to us! Almost every kid left there crying!
Robocop Day is celebrated on March 25th
I’m a biomedical engineer, working on neuro-electrical interfaces because of this movie and Luke Skywalker’s hand.
Seriously.
Are you a Med Droid?
damn it, i’ve had so many dreams about robocop, hahaha
its pretty sweet being a cyborg enforcer
Paul Verhoeven FTW. He’s Dutch.
I’ve got the 3 disc set w/ all the robocop’s. I remember when I was little watching the 2nd one & it freaked me out. The cg Cain head still kinda spooks me.:P The 1st was classic.
I remember when i was smaller I had a Robo-Cop action figure…. i used to take it everywhere.
Haha, my mom and stepdad let us go with them to the movie theater to see this. And I was 9 and my sister was 8, somewhere around there.
