Epic Win: Stellaluna

Submitted by Laura F
Jannell Cannon’s children’s book Stellaluna was an enchanting story about a baby fruit bat separated from her mother. She ends up in a nest of birds, who teach her how to fly (which is kind of like the bat equivalent of being raised by wolves, I guess). Anyway, Stellaluna remains in our hearts as the world’s second coolest bat.

ooooh! I loved stellaluna. it was my favorite book when I was a kid. still read it sometimes…
not really a fan
Agreed, I hate the book and hated having to read it alnong with my classmates. (Who all ead like robots.)

oh i loved stellaluna when i was younger i still have the toy.
oh! i used to love this book when I was a kid!
This is total win for me. That was like my favorite book when I was three or four.
wow, I loved this book!! I wanted to buy it, if I can find a copy
This was one of my daughter’s first books. It was awesome and was instrumental in helping her to enjoy reading.
It was one of MY first books, actually I first got the story on the computer with a CD, but still, it’s a major blast from the past. xP
oh, i used to love this! how could 43 people FAIL it??!
I’ll tell you how… It sucks. Super dumb. No appeal whatsoever. Not even close to Win-worthy. Our standards are far too loose if this lame book gets a Win.
There are also people who hated Doug and don’t like Legos.
Just because you didn’t care for something doesn’t make it not Win-worthy. …And honestly, something doesn’t necessarily have to be great to be a source of nostalgia. (Perfect example: Those bubbletape ads)
It’s no Wicked Jack! That was a great book.
I preferred Verdi myself. It was about a snake
.
Great book. It used to be one of my favorites. I used to have the toy too, but I lost it. D=
Oh man! I remember this ! It was my favorite book as a kid! I treasured the little bat toy that came with it.
WOW!!! i definitely had a stellaluna stuffed animal…this truly is an epic win!
Ahhhh! This was one of my favourite books when I was a kid! Still is xD Great story!
My favorite! <3 I wanted a bat after reading this book…I still do.
Stellaluna is adorablllllle <3
My 4 y/o loves it.
No toy, though!
I love that book!! I think I still have it… somewhere.
Yup, still got the toy here too. Loved Stellaluna!
i used to have the cd that went on your computer and you could play games and there was i think an interactive movie of the book
still have the book, and saved three weeks of allowance for the plushie, as a kid i was quite proud of that…
OMG! This was the FIRST book i ever personally owned! It was my FAVORITE!!! I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this book!!!!
I threw that toy into the Carlsbad Cavern area, I thought she’d be happier.
I miss that toy.
I loved that book. I even named my cat Stellaluna (Stella for short. Stellaluna doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue)!
I have a friend who just had a baby, too, and that book was one of the things I gave her at her baby shower.
Great book.
Something must be wrong with me. I hated that book.
One of my favorites — the illustrations make a bat cuddly, the story is sweetly charming, and the message that you should be what you are, not what others think you should be, is spot on. And the idea that the mother bird loves her even if she looks a little funny is priceless. And yes, I had the toy too, long since lost in one move or other. I am sorry for those who hated the book but we can’t all like everything.
Stellaluna, mezzo mare, mamma mia– wait a minute.
If you fail stellaluna you fail at life! This book was and is the best! i used to read it all the time! If you dont like stellaluna stfu.
I had the book, and the toy, and it was cool.. but if you want an epic win of a childhood read I’d have to go with ‘A Fly Went By’ for sure!
I read this because it was on Reading Rainbow.
I vaguely remember snippits of the story from when we read this in first grade. Am I the only one who seems to notice that illustrations were of higher quality back then?
OH MY GOD. I love this book! It was first read to me when I was in second grade — and we all had trouble pronouncing her name. The book was is amazing and the illustrations are beautiful; and the life lesson is such a good one too.
The movie was really weird though. I didn’t like it.
oh my god! i freaked when i saw this. it was my favorite book.
i need to go find it in my room now
i had a demo of the stellaluna storybook computer game and wanted the full version SO BAD. And then i was stellaluna for halloween in both kindergarden and 2nd grade.
<3 it so much!!!
