Epic Win: The Mouse and the Motorcycle

Mouse-Motorcycle

Submitted by Alain C

Beverly Cleary’s The Mouse and the Motorcycle captivated us as children, not only because it was about a talking mouse that rode a motorcycle, but also because of the spirit of adventure, humor, and morality that it exposed us to.

  1. Morna says:

FIRST! That mouse is kinda scary acksually.

  2. cakeislie says:

gawd that is scary… claymation is always scary when its mixed with live actors (i.e. Beetlejuice)

  3. Mel says:

This book along with its two sequels (Runaway Ralph and Ralph S. Mouse) were the only Beverly Clearly books I got into. Great trilogy.

  4. beentsy says:

These were my most favourite books when I was a kid!

  5. David says:

My son got this as part of his last Scholastic book order of the year. I loved it as a kid!

  6. rickybobby says:

Never saw the movie, but LOVED the books when I was a wee lad.

No one would guess I would grow up to ride. Nope. Not at all.

  7. I’m eleven years old, and I remember my teacher reading that book to my classmates and me in first grade. :)

  8. zach says:

I actually own the VHS of the movie.

  9. Waldo says:

that book is Beverly CLEARLY one of the best. Moorv! Moorv!

  10. Rob says:

I loved this book when I was a kid! They forgot to mention that all Ralph had to do to make the motorcycle move was make a “pbbbbbbbtttt” sound with his mouth. Pure awesomeness :)

  11. Teh_Kitteh_Whisperer says:

I found this book, by accident. I was a Ramona (Quimby) ‘junkie’ and had just learned that some Authors write more than one book. While looking for another Ramona Book, I found this on the shelf, instead. All of Mrs. Cleary’s books are epic wins, to me!

    • FuzzyWuzzy says:

Amen to these books also teaching basic library and search skills. Cleary books are what taught me how to use the “Subject” card to find the next book in the series, or (horrifying thought in today’s ADHD world) find something else to read because all the copies of the one you wanted were checked out.

  12. Div says:

    I love this book!

  13. LB says:

Ralph!! oh man Saturday morning/early afternoon epic win

  14. eme says:

I show these movies to my 3rd graders every year and they LOVE them. Pretty incredible in this day and age.

  15. Nick says:

This is the book that got me reading when i was a kid =P

  16. superhomework says:

    its now called runaway ralph!

  17. Brielle says:

  18. Sean says:
