Epic Win: Doug
This was the closest we could find to the original on YouTube
Submitted by S Elizabeth
Doug is a totally epic win! Skeeter, Patti Mayonnaise, Judy (or Judith Annastasia Funnie, the beatnik), Quailman (or any of Doug’s other alter-egos), Porkchop, Roger, Beebe, Conni, The Dinks, etc., were always there to illustrate some sort of dilemma, whether it be a moral one or just something simple, such as Doug’s fear of asking out Patti.
It was impossible to write this post without getting the Nickelodeon’s Doug theme song stuck in our heads. We sure wish reruns were still on.
This Epic Win was initially not well-received by voters and thus skipped by the Once Upon A Win writing team, however, due to the persistence of people who love this show, the vote count was raised considerably and thus revisited by staff. I never heard that theme song. I only saw it when it became “Disney’s Doug”, and they had a different opening.
Killer Tofu!!!!
oh wee oh
The Nickelodeon version was SO much better. Once it became Disney’s Doug, they changed some of the voices and the whole thing just wasn’t the same anymore.
Disney has a habit of ruining things that they buy off other people.. XP
I know. I stopped watching it after the switch.
Wow… I remember waking up early every day during kindergarten/first grade to watch this
Epic Wiiiiiiin
Agreed. Was tolerable on Nickelodeon, was irritating as all hell on Disney.
Doug is my brother-in-law.
Epic win indeed! Who in blue hell didn’t vote for Doug?
I preferred the Disney “Middle School” years. They were better animated, and a bit more mature.
Disney KILLED Doug. It was sooo awesome on Nick. Disney took Doug after I was *almost* too old to watch it anymore, but when I saw what they did to it, I got mad…it was like letting someone borrow something favorite of yours then ruining it before giving it back. >:(
amen to that
my mom apparently loved this show more than me… whenever she sees someone with tiny skinny arms, she STILL says they have ‘doug arms.’
Lol, the Nostalgia Critic HATES this show. Maybe because HIS name is Doug…
“I’m onto you Mr Mayonnaise!”

Aw man, I loved Doug. That was one of those classic shows on Nick. You know, one of the classics that didn’t SUCK.
Don’t tell Doug from thatguywiththeglasses.com
He really hates this show. Of course, I really liked the show growing up when it was on Nick. Disney… just… well… let’s not go there.
i find it amazing that even after all these years i know that voice instantly. love doug!
I loved Doug! Never saw the Disney version, just the Nick original. My parents didn’t let us watch a lot of cartoons, or play video games, but Doug was permited…. sooo we watched a lot of it.
.
Still remember The Beats. Such an obvious Beatles paradoy. ^^
.
Does Doug remind anyone else of Dilbert? just a little?
Yep, a hybrid of the Beatles and the Ramones.
ah back in the day where every tv show had a moral and not a mention of sex in sight.
Yeah, until Disney got a hold of it… LoL. Well, Nick started it with that “The Talk” episode… I think that was when it stopped showing on Nick. Then the first Disney one I remember was Doug asking his dad, “Are you trying to tell me about sex? I learned all that in school!”
does anyone know where i can find old episodes? im having trouble locating them
I found a set of dvds on Ebay a few years ago. Some of the episodes are repeated but I was so glad to find it. I think I’m going to go watch some Doug now!
AAAH EEEEE OOOO Killer Tofuuuuu!
Yes! Doug. Only the Nickelodeon version was truly epic though. Disney’s was…..not my favorite. Loved that show. It’s one of the first 3 original “Nicktoons” that made the 90s great.
^_^
I’m having flashbacks to late elementary/early middle school. Roundhouse, Salute Your Shorts, Wild and Crazy Kids, Guts, early Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Doug, My Brother and Me, Clarissa Explains it All, Pete and Pete, Kablam, Snick… I could go on FOREVER. I really want a televisual time machine now. :/
did anyone see the movie? they found a monster in the lake… it wasn’t bad.
what happened to GOOD tv?
I agree that Disney Doug sucked. I was too old for cartoons, by most people’s standards, when Disney bought it from Nick. I was so pissed! Nick doug was the bomb!
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=661865 !!! the actual intro!
search google for “doug nickelodeon intro”, its the 4th video down.
I found the original Theme Song with clip on a german website:

Another Classic Nick show. Aaaah, I was such a 90s child. Epic win, definitely. <3
I only saw a little of the Disney version. It didn’t take much for me to see that a lot had been changed. I loved the Nick version and am so saddened by what Disney did.
You forgot a character: Mrs. Wingo, the teacher. (:
I miss that show so much. Nickelodeon has gone so far downhill. ):
I liked the Nick version. I look back and realize that Skeeter had the most unfortunate name in existence…
Doug was by far one of my favorite shows when it was still airing on Nick. I can’t think of anything bad to say about it (the Nick version).
On a side note, anybody else remember Patti’s father? Looking back on it all now, I think he may have been the first recurring cartoon character permanently in a wheelchair.
-sigh- this brings back memories of a time when nick was still nickalondeain *however you spell it* and cn was cartoon network in other words, the shows didnt suck.
My kids watched Doug on Nick & I did too! I thought it was pretty cool-not lame at all. I also watched ‘Cat-Dog’ & thought it was stupidly funny! Anyone rem that show?
To this day, Doug’s “Banging on a Trashcan” song still pops into my head. So poetic, especially when he had to compete with Beebe’s “Think Big” interference. He finishes the song with the lyric “one little voice…”
Pretty profound analysis of artistic integrity in the music business, for a cartoon anyway!
Ha! I’d forgotten about that song!
Awww I thought Doug was so cute. It was sweet how pie-eyed he was over Patti Mayonnaise. And don’t forget Quailman and Porkchop–er, Quaildog!
The principal (who I think was based off Don Knotts, if he didn’t actually provide the voice) was also a riot. “This is going on your PERMANENT record!”
