Epic Win: Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Submitted by Stephen F

Bedknobs and Broomsticks was an Epic Film because it incorporated both live action and cartoons. It also used the fantastic to solve Miss Price’s problems, something that all children wish could happen.

  5. Inua says:

I love this film so much. Angela Lansbury ftw!
The scene at the end with all the soldiers is so epic. It looks so awesome and spooky. The chanting really adds to it.
I always thought it was sad though that an old book like that was divided in two and they are just waving it around even though it is about to fall apart.

  6. PhantomessJ says:

Holy crap, I ADORE this movie!! Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson were perfection in this one. My all-time favorie part is when the Nazis and fighting the enchanted armor.

I’m gonna have to go watch this tonight!

  7. Crystal says:

I have this on DVD… my boyfriend and I watch it at least once a week before we go to sleep.

  8. feckless says:

Yes! Don’t forget about the animated animal soccer game!

  9. feckless says:

  10. Anonymous says:

Fun special effects and made before everyone started relying on computers for movie making.

  11. Kat says:

This scene always reminded me of the ancient legend that King Arthur would rise up to fight the invaders of England.

  12. alyoup says:

I love this movie! It’s one of those Disney movies that very few people even know about which makes me sad, but that just gives me an excuse to watch it with someone :p

  13. KeAlDu says:

Man, I thought I was the only one who remembered this! Love this movie!

  14. Taross says:

Ahh, Angela Lansbury. She’s a Nostalgic Win on her own. :D

Anyone notice that the dad in this movie is the same actor as the dad in Mary Poppins? :D

  15. Anonymous says:

first win in a long…long time

  16. ceallaig says:

Note to Taross — David Tomlinson was part of the Disney ’stock company’ for a number of years, and films — look up his credits on IMDb and you’ll see a good many more roles from the Buena Vista folks. And yes, this is an epic win — while, even as a child, I found the animated portion a little silly, the battle sequence at the end was just amazing.

  17. notolaf says:

Fan of the book — not so much the movie…

  18. Morna says:

Unlike lots of other WWII movies, the German soldiers in this one actually *spoke German*.

  19. Harlequin_Eyes says:

So many things that are awesome in this movie.

  20. the smuffster says:

    SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Epic !

  21. Anonymous says:

I actually bought this on VHS recently after finding it in a used book/video store. It brought back so many memories…you gotta love Angela Lansbury.

  22. Anonymous says:

This is probably my favorite movie from my childhood!!! I also wondered if anyone else knew about it/appreciated it! I especially love the end scene, as well as the opening done as the Bayeaux Tapestry.
I still have an old VHS tape of it, but I bought it on DVD recently. The DVD has a couple of songs and some lines that were not in the original version. It messed with my reality!

  23. Anonymous says:

YESSSSS!!! This brings me back to a time I like to call “the day.”

  24. Laurence says:

When I was a kid I used to rent this film from the local library pretty much monthly! I enjoyed the book, but the film was great in itself, even though it wasn’t actually that faithful to the original story.

I always found it hilarious when the German guard opens the museum door and gets punched in the face by the suit of armour, and the battle scene at the end is worthy of an Epic Win by itself!

  25. rshudson82 says:

I would vote this up a million times if I could. I LOVED this movie as a kid. In fact, I think I’m going to go see if it’s on Amazon right now.

  26. Erik B says:

This movie rocks… I never noticed before, but all the soldiers of the Olde Home Guard are old as f$@#! They should have called themselves the Geriatric Home Guard. Or maybe the Old Folks Home Guard, lol.
